Solaris Secures €100M+ Contracts to Supply 170 Zero-Emission Buses in Sweden

(IN BRIEF) Solaris has announced two major contracts in Sweden for the delivery of 170 electric buses, with a total contract value exceeding €100 million. The orders include 89 units from Nobina Sverige AB, expanding services in Stockholm with the Solaris Urbino 15 LE electric model, scheduled for delivery in the first half of 2026. Additionally, VR Sverige AB will receive 81 units of the same model, set to be introduced on suburban routes in the second quarter of 2026. The Urbino 15 LE is designed for both urban and suburban environments, featuring high-energy batteries, a spacious interior, advanced safety systems, and zero-emission operation. These contracts contribute to Sweden’s goal of increasing zero-emission city buses—84% of new registrations last year—and consolidate Solaris’ long-standing market presence in Sweden, where they have supplied close to 800 buses since 2003. In 2024, Solaris increased its European deliveries by nearly 5%, with a significant majority being sustainable, low-emission vehicles, reaffirming its commitment to cleaner urban mobility.

(PRESS RELEASE) BEASAIN, 11-Apr-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Solaris has secured two new contracts in Sweden to supply a total of 170 electric buses with a combined value exceeding €100 million. The first contract is with Nobina Sverige AB, which has ordered 89 Solaris electric buses to enhance its services in Stockholm. This order builds on a strong history of collaboration, as Solaris delivered 55 electric buses to Nobina in 2024 for routes in the Swedish capital, plus another 28 units for services in Skåne. The latest batch features the Solaris Urbino 15 LE electric model and is scheduled for delivery in the first half of 2026, serving both urban and suburban routes around Stockholm.

In parallel, VR Sverige AB—one of Sweden’s premier public transport operators—has placed an order for 81 Solaris Urbino 15 LE electric buses. These buses will begin service in the second quarter of 2026, operating on suburban routes surrounding Stockholm.

The Solaris Urbino 15 LE electric bus is engineered for urban and suburban transit and is classified as a Class II vehicle, making it ideal for intercity and metropolitan routes. Each bus will be fitted with high-capacity Solaris High Energy batteries to ensure an extended operating range and a spacious, comfortable interior. In addition, the vehicles will incorporate advanced driver assistance systems to boost operational safety. As zero-emission vehicles, they are a key component in moving toward sustainable public transport.

These contracts mark another significant step forward in Sweden’s journey to zero-emission mobility. Last year alone, 84% of all newly registered city buses in Sweden were zero-emission vehicles. Solaris, which has been active in the Swedish market since 2003, has already supplied nearly 800 buses in the region—including battery- and hydrogen-powered models. In 2024, Solaris delivered a total of 1,525 vehicles across Europe, reflecting a nearly 5% increase over the previous year. A remarkable 83% of these deliveries were zero and low-emission vehicles, underscoring Solaris’ role in driving sustainable urban mobility.
