As a right-back for the Canaries, Millie is now poised to share her expertise with students, focusing on areas such as academic identity, professional development, and branding within the University’s School of Education and Lifelong Learning.

Millie’s journey at UEA began in 2017 when she enrolled in an undergraduate program in Physical Education, later pursuing a master’s and currently working on her PhD. Her decision to stay and contribute to UEA reflects her deep-rooted connections in Norwich, forged through both her academic pursuits and football career. “I chose to remain at UEA not only for my studies but also for the vibrant community and the city itself,” Millie explained. “Balancing football and academia has been rewarding, and the support I received from the University, particularly through the uea+sport scholarship program, has been invaluable.”

In her new role, Millie is eager to collaborate with familiar staff members, fostering a strong sense of teamwork and community. Her extensive background includes leading the Norwich City Women’s FC to two Norfolk FA County Cup victories and earning the 2022/23 PFA Community Champion award for her contributions off the pitch. “The skills I’ve gained from sports—teamwork, confidence, and discipline—are essential for my lecturing career,” she noted.

Millie encourages UEA students to engage in sports during their time at the University, emphasizing the benefits of exercise, camaraderie, and the enriching experience of participating in British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) events. “Joining a team not only promotes fitness but also fosters a sense of belonging,” she said.

UEA recently strengthened its strategic partnership with Norwich City FC, creating new pathways for students to explore employment opportunities at the club. Millie highlighted the significance of this connection for students, particularly female footballers, who can benefit from scholarship programs that support their development. “This collaboration allows students to gain practical experience in various fields related to professional football, enhancing their academic journey,” she added.

As part of Norwich City FC’s broader relationship with Brazilian club Coritiba FC, UEA will also offer a year-long postgraduate scholarship for a Brazilian student, which includes an eight-week placement at the football club.
