MAN young talents among the best in the Volkswagen Group

MAN Truck & Bus hosts award ceremony

6-12-2012 — /europawire.eu/ — They come from Brazil, China, Germany, or Poland. They completed their vocational training at Audi, Škoda, MAN, or Volkswagen. And they are among the best vocational trainees in the Volkswagen Group: 29 young talents from 13 countries and eight Group brands were awarded for their outstanding skills during vocational training on November 30. Two MAN talents in the form of Selina Stocker from MAN Truck & Bus and Alexander Baier from MAN Diesel & Turbo were also among them.

The Best Apprentice Award 2012 was presented by Group Chairman of the Board of Management Prof. Dr. Martin Winterkorn, the Group Board Member for Human Resources Dr. Horst Neumann, and President of the World Group Works Council Bernd Osterloh. The award ceremony took place at a meeting of the Group Board of Management and World Group Works Council of Volkswagen at MAN Truck & Bus in Munich.

Two of the MAN Group’s trainees were among the award winners for the first time: Selina Stocker, Warehouse Logistics Specialist at MAN Truck & Bus in Munich, and Alexander Baier from MAN Diesel & Turbo in Augsburg. Baier started the three-and-a-half year traineeship to become a machinist back in 2008. He finished ahead of time after just three years and was taken on. In 2011, the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce named the 22-year-old “best machinist in Germany”. From September 2013 onward, he will be attending the technician school part-time. For Selina Stocker too, the vocational traineeship to become a warehouse logistics specialist at MAN Truck & Bus was not the end of the line. The 21-year-old will continue to train further to become a certified master craftswoman in logistic services. The prize comes at the right time: “The award is great motivation to power through my traineeship as master craftswoman now too.”

Training young talent is of great importance at MAN. In September, 122 young workers and 27 dual work-study students started their training at MAN Truck & Bus in Munich alone. The Group currently employs around 2,000 vocational trainees at its German plants and sales branches and around 2,800 worldwide.

The best trainees were picked by the respective brands and sites of the Volkswagen Group. They were chosen on the basis of special performance during their traineeships as well as on the basis of their final grades. The award winner ceremony in Munich ended a visit spanning several days that was filled with workshops and a plant tour of MAN. It also included a practical project carried out by trainees at MAN Truck & Bus.
