KUKA launches KMR iisy CR AMR for ISO Class 3 cleanrooms in semiconductor fabs

(IN BRIEF) KUKA’s new KMR iisy CR cleanroom AMR combines a mobile base with the six-axis LBR iisy CR robot arm to deliver certified ISO Class 3 performance for semiconductor and electronics production. Equipped for 11 kg and 15 kg payloads, it handles picking, transport and palletizing with low emissions, ESD safety and rapid changeovers. Managed by AI-based KUKA.AMR Fleet and powered by the flexible iiQKA.OS2 operating system, the platform supports easy integration via SmartPAD pro or SmartPLUG, optional semiconductor-standard interfaces and sealed, outgassing-controlled components—offering a cost-effective path to cleanroom automation.

(PRESS RELEASE) AUGSBURG, 18-Jun-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — KUKA presents the KMR iisy CR, an autonomous mobile robot tailor-made for semiconductor manufacturing and other ultra-clean environments. Building on the proven KMR platform, the cleanroom-certified iisy CR integrates the six-axis LBR iisy CR manipulator to handle 11 kg and 15 kg payloads with minimal particle emission and full ESD compliance. Tested and certified by the Fraunhofer Institute to ISO 14644-1 Class 3 standards, it excels at pick-and-place, material transfers and palletizing tasks without compromising the stringent cleanliness requirements of modern electronics production.

Following a swift installation, the mobile manipulator can link any number of workstations, overcoming the inflexibility of traditional conveyor systems and seamlessly switching between product lines for economical small-batch runs. Its construction uses low-outgassing materials and sealed axis bearings to curb ammonia and hydrocarbon release, while specialized packaging and post-production cleanroom conditioning ensure zero contamination during delivery.

Centralized orchestration is provided by KUKA.AMR Fleet, an AI-driven software suite that monitors and controls heterogeneous AMR fleets in real time. Meanwhile, the robot arm runs on iiQKA.OS2—a virtual robot controller conforming to ISO 10218, equipped with cyber-resilience and AI capabilities for digitalized manufacturing. Operators can interact via the ergonomic SmartPAD pro or by plugging in personal tablets through the SmartPLUG interface, reducing hardware costs for large deployments.

With optional E82 and E84 ports for FOUP, SMIF POD and open cassette handling, the KMR iisy CR integrates smoothly into existing semiconductor material control systems. Sealed against particle generation and electrostatic discharge per DIN EN 61340, it stands ready to elevate cleanroom automation, supporting the industry’s drive toward higher yields and lower operating expenses.
