GLOBUL reports 31% YoY increase in data revenues in the second quarter of 2014

SOFIA, 23-7-2014 — /EuropaWire/ — GLOBUL continued to grow data revenues in the second quarter of 2014, which was up 31% YoY following increased focus on data services. As of end of the quarter, the active customer base exceeded 4 million, or 2% above Q2’2013, while market penetration was estimated to be over 140%.

GLOBUL’s total revenue for Q2’2014 decreased 7.6% compared to the same period last year1 mainly as a result of lower volumes of device sales and the continuous reduction of mobile termination rates (MTR)2.

Service revenues were down by 5.5% in Q2’2014, mainly due to the regulatory impact on termination and roaming rates. Excluding interconnection and visitors revenues, service revenues for Q2’2014 were only 0.4% below prior year, as the better performance in the consumer segment almost fully compensated the decline in corporate segment driven by competitive intensity.

GLOBUL’s comparable earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) for Q2’2014 decreased by 8% compared to Q2’2013, mainly as a result of one-off vendor discount booked in 2013. Excluding the one-off impact, EBITDA was up by 2.3% from lower marketing & sales and administrative expenses. The EBITDA margin slightly dropped by 0.2 percentage points compared to same quarter last year.

GLOBUL’s postpaid customer base continued to grow, and ended at close to 2.8 million, up by 3.4% year-on-year. Postpaid customers account for close to 70% of the 4 million active client base of the company3. As a result of prepaid to postpaid migration through innovative offers, the prepaid active customer base declined by 1.1% compared to Q2’2013.

GLOBUL’s mobile broadband subscriber base increased by 37% YoY in Q2’2014 while hybrid fixed services continued its stable growth reaching a subscriber base of almost 270,000.

Blended active AMPU for Q2’2014 was in line with Q2’2013, while blended active ARPU for Q2’2014 dropped to BGN 11.0, or 6% lower than the same period prior year, principally due to the reduction in the termination rate – adjusted for the MTR effect, the decline in Q2’2014 ARPU was only 2.6% YoY.
