Franco-Polish Defense Alliance Strengthened as PGZ and Safran Forge New Industrial Partnership

(IN BRIEF) Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa S.A. and Safran have signed an MoU to further their cooperation within the European defense industry. The agreement, signed in Warsaw during high-level discussions between PGZ President Krzysztof Trofiniak and Safran CEO Olivier Andriès, aims to explore collaboration in various industrial sectors including engines and propulsion, optronics, artificial intelligence, and smart munitions and PNT solutions. Currently, the two companies are working together on PNT systems for Polish air defense, with plans to establish a new production line in Poland where 80% of components will be locally manufactured. The project includes training initiatives for WZE teams in France starting in Q3 2025, marking a significant step in strengthening Franco-Polish defense ties and enhancing Europe’s security infrastructure.

(PRESS RELEASE) WARSAW, 25-Mar-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa S.A. (PGZ) and the French high-technology powerhouse Safran have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to explore further business opportunities under the framework of European defense industry collaboration. The agreement was formalized at PGZ’s headquarters in Warsaw during a high-level meeting, where Safran CEO Olivier Andriès engaged in strategic discussions with Krzysztof Trofiniak, President of PGZ Group, to pinpoint potential collaborative ventures between the two companies and their subsidiaries.

Krzysztof Trofiniak remarked, “In challenging times, having reliable partners is essential. We view our counterparts in the French defense industry as proven allies. This agreement marks a significant step forward in reinforcing the defense of our nation and the broader region. Through our joint efforts, we aim to contribute to a European Union that stands as a stronghold of democracy, equipped with all the necessary capabilities to ensure security for current and future generations.”

Adding his perspective, Olivier Andriès stated, “Amid geopolitical uncertainties, escalating security threats, and a profound transformation in European defense, we are honored to strengthen the security and resilience of our continent by forging new Franco-Polish industrial bonds. Built on mutual trust and a shared vision, this enduring partnership with the Polish defense sector is a pivotal move toward establishing a robust European Defense Industrial and Technological Base.”

The MoU outlines several key areas for potential cooperation, including the development of engines and propulsion systems for air platforms, optronics, artificial intelligence, and smart munitions as well as position, navigation, and timing (PNT) solutions. Task forces from both sides will further assess additional areas where their joint expertise can create significant synergies.

Currently, PGZ and Safran are actively collaborating on PNT systems through a partnership between WZE and Safran Electronics & Defense. This collaboration has already resulted in the delivery of Geonyx inertial navigation and pointing systems for Polish air defense programs. Plans are underway to establish a new navigation production line in Poland, which will see nearly 80% of the system components produced locally. Preparations for this production include the development of necessary infrastructure, with the first training sessions for WZE teams in France scheduled to begin in Q3 2025.
