Five Star Euro NCAP Recognition Highlights Scania L Cab Focus on Direct Vision Advanced Safety Systems and Urban Performance

(IN BRIEF) Scania’s L-series low-entry cab has received a top five-star rating in Euro NCAP’s Safer Trucks programme following testing of its electric variant in the utility vehicle segment. The cab is engineered for urban and vocational duties, offering strong direct visibility, ergonomic access, and safety-focused features such as the City Door design to reduce risks to cyclists and pedestrians. A combination of advanced driver assistance systems, robust passive protection, and compatibility with Scania’s modular platform supports both operational efficiency and high safety standards, while its versatility allows the vehicle to be used across a wide range of municipal and construction-related applications.

(PRESS RELEASE) SÖDERTÄLJE, 20-Feb-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Scania’s L-series cab has earned the highest possible five-star rating in the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP) Safer Trucks evaluation, underlining the company’s continued focus on advancing vehicle safety in demanding urban environments.

The assessed model, an electric version of the L-cab, falls within the utility vehicle category, which includes essential service vehicles such as refuse collection trucks and other municipal-duty applications. Designed as a low-entry cab for intensive city and vocational operations, the L-series prioritises direct visibility and safe interaction with vulnerable road users.

A defining feature of the cab is its enhanced field of vision, further improved when equipped with Scania’s City Door. This configuration supports safer access and exit while reducing the likelihood of incidents caused by doors opening into passing cyclists or pedestrians, thanks to its space-efficient operation.

Scania emphasised that the recognition reflects its longstanding commitment to integrating safety into every stage of vehicle development. The L-cab has been engineered to create a safer working environment for drivers and crews by combining ergonomic design with advanced protective technologies.

Active safety features include systems such as advanced emergency braking, lane departure warning with steering support, and a side-turn emergency braking function capable of detecting cyclists crossing the truck’s path and responding automatically. These technologies are complemented by strong passive safety measures, including driver and side curtain airbags and a reinforced cab structure built to meet rigorous internal safety standards.

The L-cab is fully aligned with Scania’s modular vehicle architecture, allowing operators familiar with other Scania models to immediately recognise controls and layout. This continuity enhances usability, reduces training needs, and supports operational efficiency. Its adaptable design enables deployment across a variety of vocational uses, including tippers, concrete mixers, and truck-mounted attenuator vehicles.

With this latest Euro NCAP recognition, Scania strengthens its position in delivering vehicles that combine operator comfort, practical functionality, and independently verified safety performance for modern urban transport challenges.

About Euro NCAP and the Safer Trucks Programme

Euro NCAP (European New Car Assessment Programme) is a leading independent authority in automotive safety, with testing programmes dating back to 1997. Its star ratings help customers identify the safest choices available on the market, while encouraging manufacturers to exceed legal requirements and continually improve safety performance.

Work on Euro NCAP’s Heavy-Duty Vehicle rating began in 2020, with the first results published in November 2024. The assessment is based on four stages of an accident: safe driving, crash avoidance, crash protection, and post-crash safety.
