Eviden and veenion Announce New Digital Procurement Platform for the Future of Public Administration in Germany

(IN BRIEF) Eviden and veenion GmbH have partnered to modernize the “Kaufhaus des Bundes” procurement platform with the KdB NG project. This new platform will digitize procurement for over 480 German federal authorities, providing a modern, secure, and efficient way for over 22,000 users to procure goods and services online. The solution, based on veenion’s “open ordering” software, will streamline processes, enhance transparency, and ensure sustainability. The platform’s implementation will unfold in three phases, with full deployment expected by the end of 2025. This long-term collaboration will continue to evolve to meet the needs of public administrations, ensuring the system remains effective and up-to-date.

(PRESS RELEASE) BERLIN/ PARIS, 12-May-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Eviden, part of the Atos Group and a leader in digital, cloud, big data, and security solutions, has partnered with IT services provider veenion GmbH to announce the successful signing of a contract for the modernization of the “Kaufhaus des Bundes – Next Generation” (KdB NG). This new platform will replace the current system and create a modern, user-friendly procurement portal, revolutionizing the electronic procurement process for over 480 federal authorities and related institutions in Germany. By fully digitizing procurement, the KdB NG will streamline operations, providing over 22,000 registered users with a secure, fast, and efficient way to procure goods and services online.

The new procurement solution will bring enhanced functionality to the “Kaufhaus des Bundes,” which has become a cornerstone of public sector procurement. It aggregates the purchasing needs of federal authorities, offering a wide variety of products and services—from office supplies and IT services to vehicles—at a single platform. The KdB NG will be built on the “open ordering” standard software provided by veenion, enabling workflow-driven process optimization and creating a fully transparent digital procurement experience that connects awarding authorities, contractors, and demand carriers seamlessly.

The project will unfold in three phases:

  • Phase One: Establishment of the core system with essential functionalities for initial testing.
  • Phase Two: Expansion of the system with the full functionality and initial piloting.
  • Phase Three: Ongoing support during the pilot phase leading up to the system’s full launch by the end of 2025.

Eviden and veenion will continue to refine and adjust the solution to meet the evolving needs of the federal administration, ensuring that the platform stays current and effective.

Long-Term Partnership Drives Success

Eviden has been working with the “Kaufhaus des Bundes” since its inception in 2001. This extensive experience, coupled with the company’s deep understanding of public sector procurement, has formed the foundation of the new modernization project. Together with the German federal procurement office (BeschA), Eviden has developed a tailored solution to meet the specific needs of public administrations, setting new standards for modern, secure, and efficient procurement processes.

Veenion GmbH brings more than 25 years of expertise in procurement solutions for cities, public authorities, and research institutions. Its collaboration with Eviden in this project aims to elevate public sector procurement to new heights, enabling efficient e-procurement that connects buyers, suppliers, and demand carriers.

Sustainable Benefits for Public Administration

The KdB NG platform will provide significant advantages to public administrations:

  • Maximum Efficiency: Automated processes, electronic catalogs, and self-service options streamline procurement, cutting down on time and effort.
  • High Security: Configurable approval processes and comprehensive documentation ensure full transparency and security.
  • User-Friendliness: The intuitive interface simplifies the procurement process for users, making it easy to access the necessary functions and information.
  • Future-Proof: The platform will continuously evolve with state-of-the-art technologies, ensuring it meets both current and future needs.
  • Sustainability: The inclusion of sustainability labels for products provides clear guidance on eco-friendly and socially responsible procurement options.

Boris Hecker, Managing Director of Eviden Deutschland GmbH, emphasizes, “This new solution for the ‘Kaufhaus des Bundes’ will drive the digitization of public administration, ensuring a future-proof and sustainable procurement system that meets the specific requirements of the authorities.”

Manuel Delvo, Managing Director of veenion GmbH, adds, “Our collaboration with Eviden has led to the development of a solution that can flexibly adapt to the needs of public authorities, taking public procurement to the next level.”

Frank Schmitz, Head of Department Z at the Procurement Office of the Federal Ministry of the Interior, states, “The ‘Kaufhaus des Bundes’ has been the central procurement platform for federal authorities, and this new solution will ensure its continued relevance and functionality in the future.”
