Energiekontor Advances Renewable Energy Expansion with Financial Close of Donstorf Wind Repowering Project

Energiekontor Strengthens Renewable Partnership With illwerke vkw Through Wind Asset Sale

(IN BRIEF) Energiekontor AG has reached financial close for its Donstorf wind repowering project in Lower Saxony, Germany, paving the way for construction and eventual integration into its own renewable energy portfolio. The project, expected to be operational by 2028, will add approximately 29 megawatts of capacity and generate around 74 GWh of electricity annually, supporting over 22,000 households while reducing CO2 emissions significantly. As part of a broader expansion strategy, Energiekontor is advancing multiple wind and solar projects, with more than 230 megawatts currently under development and a target portfolio exceeding 680 megawatts. The initiative reflects the company’s focus on building a stable, long-term revenue base through owned assets while navigating regulatory and market challenges.

(PRESS RELEASE) BREMEN, 17-Mar-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Energiekontor AG has achieved financial close for its Donstorf repowering wind project, marking another step forward in the company’s strategy to expand its owned renewable energy portfolio. Once the wind park becomes operational, it will be incorporated into Energiekontor’s in-house asset base, contributing to a projected portfolio capacity exceeding 680 megawatts.

The Donstorf project, located in Eydelstedt in Lower Saxony’s Diepholz district, secured its position following a successful bid in the Federal Network Agency’s EEG tender in November 2025. With financing now in place, the project is set to move into the construction phase, with commissioning currently scheduled for 2028.

The wind farm will consist of four Vestas turbines, each with a capacity of 7.2 megawatts, delivering a combined output of approximately 29 megawatts. Featuring a hub height of 175 metres and a rotor diameter of 172 metres, the turbines are designed for high-efficiency generation. Once fully operational, the project is expected to produce around 74 gigawatt-hours of electricity annually—enough to supply more than 22,000 households—while reducing carbon emissions by approximately 56,000 tonnes per year.

The original development concept included six turbines, but rights to two of these were transferred to a local landowners’ association, which is now independently advancing their development.

Looking ahead, Energiekontor plans to further expand its portfolio during the 2026 financial year by adding three additional projects with a combined capacity exceeding 120 megawatts. These include two solar parks in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, totalling around 113 megawatt-peak capacity and backed by long-term power purchase agreements, as well as a wind turbine project in the Verden district of Lower Saxony with an approximate capacity of seven megawatts supported by an EEG feed-in tariff.

In parallel, projects with a combined capacity of roughly 85 megawatts are currently under construction and are expected to be integrated into the company’s portfolio by 2027. Including the Donstorf project, Energiekontor is currently developing nine projects with a total capacity of more than 230 megawatts, reinforcing its long-term growth trajectory.

Peter Szabo, CEO of Energiekontor AG, stated that the financial close of the Donstorf project underscores the company’s commitment to expanding its own generation portfolio. He emphasized that increasing owned capacity provides stable, long-term revenue streams and strengthens resilience in a market environment characterised by regulatory uncertainty and evolving conditions.
