Dürr Delivers a Next-Generation Sustainable Paint Shop for Saudi Arabia’s First Electric Vehicle Manufacturer CEER

The CEER project is currently in the installation phase.

(IN BRIEF) Dürr is constructing a state-of-the-art, sustainable paint shop for CEER, Saudi Arabia’s first electric vehicle brand, bringing the Paint Shop of the Future concept fully into operation for the first time. The modular facility replaces traditional rigid lines with flexible paint boxes and automated guided vehicles, enabling interior and exterior painting in a single station and fully automated two-tone finishes without overspray. Advanced technologies such as EcoInCure ovens, electric exhaust air purification, and the EcoPaintJet Pro significantly reduce energy use, paint consumption, and CO2 emissions. Digital solutions from Dürr’s DXQ software family turn the plant into an intelligent, data-driven factory. Located in King Abdullah Economic City, the new paint shop is scheduled to start production in the fourth quarter of 2026 and will position CEER among the most advanced automotive manufacturers globally.

(PRESS RELEASE) BIETIGHEIM-BISSINGEN, 13-Jan-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Dürr is delivering a highly advanced and sustainable paint shop for CEER, Saudi Arabia’s first homegrown electric vehicle manufacturer, marking a major milestone in the country’s emerging EV industry. Commissioned in 2023 and now in the installation phase, the project introduces a flexible, modular paint shop designed to combine high-end automation with significant environmental benefits. Once completed, the facility will rank among the most technologically sophisticated automotive paint shops worldwide.

At the heart of the project is Dürr’s full implementation of its Paint Shop of the Future concept, realized for the first time in its entirety at CEER’s Manufacturing Complex in King Abdullah Economic City. The modular setup replaces conventional rigid production lines with flexible paint boxes, allowing automated guided vehicles to transport vehicle bodies dynamically between stations according to production demand. This approach enables interior and exterior painting to take place within a single box, while an additional box supports fully automated two-tone applications without overspray. Production is scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026.

Sustainability plays a central role in the new paint shop. CEER is adopting Dürr’s latest generation of EcoInCure ovens, which heat vehicle bodies from the inside to more effectively reach large structural components. This technology is particularly well suited to electric vehicles, which require reinforced rocker panels to protect batteries while maintaining temperature control in thinner body sections. By reducing drying times by up to 30 percent compared to conventional systems, the process significantly lowers energy consumption. Exhaust air from the ovens is treated using the electric Oxi.X RV system from Dürr CTS, which employs regenerative thermal oxidation without open flames, eliminating combustion-related by-products and further reducing CO2 emissions.

Another highlight is the integration of Dürr’s EcoPaintJet Pro, an award-winning, overspray-free application system. This technology enables CEER to offer two-tone paint finishes with contrasting colors applied simultaneously, without the need for masking tape. As a result, paint usage is reduced, plastic waste is eliminated, and customers gain access to highly customized designs, including complex graphics such as lettering and logos.

Flexibility is further enhanced through the use of EcoProBooth paint boxes and EcoProFleet automated guided vehicles, which continuously move car bodies between workstations and storage areas. Material flow is digitally managed by DXQlogistics.control, ensuring optimal use of equipment and resources. Painting quality is supported by the EcoBell4 Pro atomizer series, which meets the highest standards for surface finish and consistency.

Digitalization is a defining feature of the new facility. Solutions from Dürr’s DXQ software portfolio transform the paint shop into a smart factory environment. The DXQcontrol manufacturing operations management system, built on a microservices architecture, provides extensive capabilities for planning, execution, monitoring, optimization, and predictive analysis. Complementing this, DXQanalyze delivers data-driven insights into system performance, component service life, and correlations between production processes and quality outcomes, enabling a new level of operational transparency.

Dürr executives emphasize that innovation and sustainability are inseparable in modern vehicle production, while CEER views the project as a cornerstone of its ambition to establish a world-class manufacturing base in Saudi Arabia. Beyond technological advancement, the partnership reflects a shared commitment to efficiency, customization, and environmental responsibility. Supporting its growing presence in the region, Dürr further strengthened local operations with the opening of its subsidiary, Dürr Systems Arabia LLC, in Jeddah in autumn 2024.
