BASF’s Optical Film Enhances Anti-Glare Features in Panasonic’s “SHIYUE” Study Luminaire

(IN BRIEF) BASF’s NovaFlex GlareControl optical film has been incorporated into Panasonic’s “SHIYUE” study luminaire, achieving the highest performance level for anti-glare properties as set by the China Quality Certification Center. This partnership highlights BASF’s entry into the Asian market and showcases the benefits of their advanced anti-glare technology in creating comfortable and healthy lighting environments.

(PRESS RELEASE) LUDWIGSHAFEN, 23-Jul-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — BASF’s advanced optical film, NovaFlex GlareControl, has been integrated into Panasonic’s latest study luminaire, “SHIYUE,” providing exceptional anti-glare properties and promoting eye health. This collaboration has enabled the “SHIYUE” luminaire to achieve the highest performance level (AAAAA) as defined by the China Quality Certification Center for moveable luminaires used in writing and reading applications.

Innovative Technology and Superior Performance

NovaFlex GlareControl employs FunTex technology, which produces micro-structured films through a roll-to-roll process. The film is embedded with millions of microlenses that direct light, significantly reducing glare. Panasonic’s incorporation of BASF’s optical film results in over a 50% reduction of light emitted directly towards the eyes, ensuring a comfortable and healthy lighting environment. This advanced technology allows the luminaire to meet the stringent requirements of the new Chinese standard.

Statements from Leadership

Zhenyu Zhao, head of Panasonic Lighting Space Division, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, “BASF’s optical film products will play an important role in the lighting industry. Panasonic looks forward to working with BASF to innovate together in the fields of health and green lighting, and create a better life for consumers.”

Martin Friedrich, Head of Optical Films at BASF’s “Beyond Paint Solutions” business unit, highlighted the significance of this partnership, saying, “Panasonic’s launch of a luminaire equipped with our product is an important milestone for us to enter the Asian market with our optical films. Panasonic, as a well-known consumer brand, is a strong reference for our activities in the lighting industry.”

Future Prospects

This collaboration marks a significant step for BASF in the Asian market, showcasing the potential of NovaFlex GlareControl in enhancing lighting products. Both companies are committed to furthering innovations in health and green lighting, aiming to provide superior lighting solutions that benefit consumers.
