ANDRITZ Secures Major EGAT Contract to Modernize Pumped Storage Units at Thailand’s Srinagarind Hydropower Plant

Contract signing with representatives of EGAT and ANDRITZ Hydropower

(IN BRIEF) ANDRITZ has received a major contract from the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) to modernize the Srinagarind hydropower plant by replacing two pumped storage units with advanced 180-MW systems. The mid double-digit million-euro project, part of ANDRITZ’s second-quarter 2025 order intake, includes supply, installation, and commissioning of key electromechanical components. Located in Kanchanaburi province, Srinagarind is one of Thailand’s largest hydropower stations, providing 720 MW of capacity for base load and grid balancing. Building on its prior modernization of the plant’s Francis units, ANDRITZ will utilize its facilities in India and global expertise to enhance efficiency and reliability. Active in Thailand for over 50 years, ANDRITZ has supported nearly half of the country’s hydropower capacity, reinforcing its leading role in advancing Thailand’s sustainable energy infrastructure.

(PRESS RELEASE) GRAZ, 27-Oct-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — ANDRITZ has been awarded a major contract by the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) to replace two pumped storage units at the Srinagarind hydropower plant with state-of-the-art technology. Valued in the mid double-digit million-euro range, the renewable energy project has been included in ANDRITZ’s order intake for the second quarter of 2025 and marks another milestone in the company’s long-standing contribution to Thailand’s hydropower sector.

Located on the Kwai Yai River in Kanchanaburi province, the Srinagarind plant is one of Thailand’s largest hydropower facilities, with a total generating capacity of 720 MW from three Francis units and two pumped storage units. The station provides essential base load electricity, peak load management, and grid balancing across the country’s power network. ANDRITZ previously modernized the plant’s Francis units, and this latest order builds on that successful collaboration.

The new contract includes the supply, installation, and commissioning of two 180-MW pump turbine units, motor generators, and associated electromechanical equipment and auxiliaries. ANDRITZ will leverage its advanced manufacturing facilities in India and its global engineering network to ensure the highest levels of performance, quality, and reliability. Once completed, the modernization will significantly improve operational efficiency and extend the plant’s lifetime, ensuring that Srinagarind continues to play a vital role in Thailand’s renewable energy supply for decades to come.

EGAT, which owns and operates more than 50 power plants with a total installed capacity exceeding 16,000 MW, continues to invest in projects that strengthen Thailand’s energy security and transition toward a low-carbon future.

Having operated in Thailand for over five decades, ANDRITZ has contributed to nearly half of the country’s hydropower capacity through both new installations and modernization initiatives. This repeat order from EGAT reinforces ANDRITZ’s position as a trusted partner in Thailand’s hydropower development and underlines its commitment to providing innovative, sustainable solutions that support the nation’s renewable energy ambitions.
