ANDRITZ to Supply Advanced Chemical Recovery Package for Chung Hwa’s Hualien Mill

(IN BRIEF) Chung Hwa Pulp Corporation has awarded ANDRITZ a turnkey package of chemical recovery technologies for its Hualien pulp mill, with start-up slated for Q2 2027. The scope includes a 1,400 tds/d recovery boiler with digital process controls, a Lo-NOₓ emissions solution under the CircleToZero program, a 108 t/d ash leaching plant, and a 377 t/h black liquor evaporator with easy-clean lamella heat exchangers. These systems will enhance resource efficiency, lower emissions, and augment renewable energy generation. This marks ANDRITZ’s inaugural delivery of recovery technology in Taiwan and underscores its position as a premier supplier of sustainable pulp-mill solutions.

(PRESS RELEASE) GRAZ, 15-Jul-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Chung Hwa Pulp Corporation has entrusted ANDRITZ with a landmark contract to equip its Hualien, Taiwan mill with cutting-edge chemical recovery systems designed for superior environmental performance. Scheduled to commence operation in Q2 2027, the order enhances the mill’s resource efficiency, renewable energy output, and emissions control.

ANDRITZ’s comprehensive delivery package comprises:

  • 1,400 tds/d Recovery Boiler
Engineered for steam generation at 105 bar(a) and 515 °C, this boiler combines advanced process controls and digitalization tools to maximize chemical recovery with minimal emissions—boosting the mill’s renewable energy production.
  • Lo-NOₓ Emissions Solution
As part of the CircleToZero initiative, this low-NOₓ configuration ensures ultra-low dust and nitrogen oxide output while maintaining peak thermal efficiency.
  • 108 t/d Ash Leaching Plant
Integrated directly with the recovery boiler, this unit reduces chlorine and potassium content in the ash stream and recovers valuable chemicals for reuse.
  • 377 t/h Black Liquor Evaporation Plant
Featuring easy-clean lamella heating surfaces and sophisticated process controls, this high-capacity evaporator delivers energy-efficient concentration of spent pulping liquor and high operational uptime.

“ANDRITZ’s state-of-the-art solutions will allow us to optimize our operations, reduce resource consumption, and uphold stringent emission standards,” said Chang Mingyih, Project Manager at Chung Hwa’s Hualien mill.

This contract—the first ANDRITZ chemical recovery technology order in Taiwan—reinforces ANDRITZ’s global leadership in eco-efficient pulp mill systems. The award has been booked in ANDRITZ’s Q2 2025 order intake.
