(PRESS RELEASE) SOLNA, 20-Jan-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — AFRY is contributing specialist expertise to the development of the new Nobel Center in Stockholm, a landmark public venue dedicated to science, literature, and peace that is scheduled to open in 2031. Located in central Stockholm at Slussen, the Nobel Center is being developed as a year-round, open meeting place designed to engage the public while celebrating the legacy and achievements of Nobel Prize laureates from around the world.

Since 2022, AFRY has been involved in the planning phase of the project, and its role is now being communicated publicly. The company is responsible for leading the design of the building’s energy systems, HVAC, control systems, and sprinkler solutions, working in close collaboration with partner SEC. In addition, AFRY is delivering comprehensive cost calculations and climate risk analyses, supporting both the long-term viability of the project and its resilience to future environmental challenges.

The Nobel Center is envisioned as an international symbol of knowledge and dialogue, welcoming Nobel laureates, researchers, students, school groups, and visitors from Sweden and abroad. The building will showcase the stories and groundbreaking contributions of Nobel Prize winners while fostering public engagement across disciplines and generations.

Sustainability is a core principle of the project’s design. The building will feature a timber structural system combined with reused brick for the façade, reflecting a strong commitment to reducing climate impact. These material choices are complemented by ambitious technical solutions and an architectural expression that draws on historical context while clearly addressing future needs.

The 13,000-square-meter building has been designed by David Chipperfield Architects in Berlin and aims to combine timeless architectural qualities with modern performance standards. Construction is planned to begin in 2027, with completion and inauguration expected in 2031. Through its involvement, AFRY is supporting the creation of a world-class public hub that honors Alfred Nobel’s legacy while setting new benchmarks for sustainability and technical excellence in cultural architecture.
