AFRY Leads Innovative Climate Resilience Study on Ischia, Presented by EIB

(PRESS RELEASE) SOLNA, 12-Jul-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — In a collaborative effort with the European Investment Bank (EIB), AFRY has played a pivotal role in producing a groundbreaking climate change adaptation report for Ischia, an Italian island grappling with seismic and landslide challenges in recent years. Commissioned by the EIB, the comprehensive study assesses future climate risks across Ischia’s key economic sectors and outlines strategic measures for resilient post-disaster reconstruction.

The EIB report, enriched by extensive field research and data from diverse scientific sources, presents a detailed overview of environmental challenges and proposes innovative solutions to mitigate future climate risks. AFRY led the coordination of the study, contributing expertise in climate impact analysis related to landslides, floods, and risk assessments in transportation, infrastructure, and tourism sectors. Collaborative efforts with esteemed partners such as CMCC, Willis Tower Watson, Adelphi, and 4C further bolstered the study’s robustness.

The report’s findings were unveiled during a press conference on April 19, 2024, in Ischia, attended by key stakeholders including EIB Vice-President Gelsomina Vigliotti, Government Commissioner Giovanni Legnini, regional representatives, and local mayors. Minister of Environment and Energy Security Gilberto Pichetto Fratin participated via video conference.
