ABL to Oversee Marine Warranty for Scotland’s 1.1 GW Inch Cape Offshore Wind Project

(IN BRIEF) ABL has been appointed as marine warranty surveyor for the Inch Cape Offshore Wind Farm, a 1.1 GW offshore wind project off the coast of Scotland. The consultancy will manage marine assurance for the transport and installation of turbines, foundations, cables, and the offshore substation platform. Managed from ABL’s Aberdeen office with support from teams across the UK and the Netherlands, the contract continues ABL’s involvement with the project since 2019. Installation begins in late summer 2025, with full project completion expected in 2027. Inch Cape will significantly contribute to Scotland and the UK’s renewable energy targets.

(PRESS RELEASE) LONDON, 15-Apr-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Energy and marine consultancy ABL has been appointed marine warranty surveyor (MWS) for the transport and installation phases of the Inch Cape Offshore Wind Farm, a major 1.1 GW renewable energy project located off Scotland’s east coast.

Under the agreement, ABL will oversee the marine warranty aspects for all key elements of the wind farm’s offshore construction. This includes the transport and installation of 72 wind turbine generators, jacket and monopile foundations, the offshore substation platform, as well as the export and inter-array cables. As MWS, ABL will be responsible for reviewing documentation, conducting vessel inspections, and certifying both equipment and operations to ensure safe and compliant execution.

The Aberdeen office of ABL will lead the project management, drawing on the expertise of the company’s teams in London, Newcastle, and Rotterdam. The consultancy has been supporting Inch Cape since 2019, contributing to the early planning stages and now playing a key role in construction.

“Inch Cape is a flagship project for Scotland’s renewable ambitions, and we are proud to bring our extensive offshore wind experience to help realise its potential,” said Ashley Perrett, Sub Regional Director for Northern Europe at ABL. “Our teams bring a wealth of knowledge from similar projects across Europe, and we’re committed to delivering excellence throughout the build phase.”

Located approximately 15 km off the Angus coastline, Inch Cape Offshore Wind Farm will feed renewable energy via a new substation at Cockenzie in East Lothian, 85 kilometres away, where it will be integrated into the UK’s national grid. Once operational, the 72-turbine development will make a significant contribution toward the UK and Scotland’s net zero targets.

Installation of the offshore substation platform is scheduled for late summer 2025, with overall project completion expected in 2027.
