(PRESS RELEASE) LONDON, 27-Aug-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — ABL, the global energy and marine consultancy, has appointed Carmela Friedman as Director of Renewables for England, marking a significant step in strengthening its leadership in offshore renewable energy services. Friedman, an accomplished naval architect and marine warranty survey (MWS) professional, takes on the role after a successful tenure as an MWS Consultant in ABL’s London team, where she built a strong reputation for her expertise and leadership.

Friedman brings extensive experience across offshore wind transportation and installation, operations and maintenance, and subsea cabling projects. In her new position, she will oversee the strategic expansion and delivery of ABL’s MWS and engineering consultancy services for renewable energy projects across England and the wider North Sea. Her responsibilities will include guiding offshore wind development, supporting interconnector projects, and advancing subsea cabling operations to meet growing demand in the renewables sector.

James Anderson, Energy Director at ABL England, praised her contribution: “ABL’s London team has consistently delivered on some of the region’s most high-profile offshore wind and interconnector projects, with Carmela playing a central role in those successes. Her promotion reflects her technical excellence and leadership in maintaining our safety-first ethos while raising standards of service delivery.”

Friedman succeeds Mike McLachlan, who will continue as ABL’s Director of Renewables for Europe. McLachlan will now focus on broadening ABL’s services across the European offshore renewable sector, furthering the company’s role in driving the energy transition.

Commenting on the appointment, McLachlan added: “ABL, through its legacy brand LOC, has been a pioneer in offshore wind development in Europe since the very beginning of the industry. Now, as part of ABL Group, we have supported more than 300 offshore wind projects globally. Carmela’s promotion reinforces our commitment to supporting clients as they expand renewable capacity, and I look forward to collaborating with her as we continue building momentum for Europe’s energy transition goals.”

The appointment is effective immediately.

ABL provides marine consultancy, advisory, asset integrity, ports and harbours consulting, and marine assurance and warranty services worldwide, with a strong track record in supporting offshore wind and interconnector projects across global markets.
