ABL Partners with EHCAAN to Accelerate Decarbonization in Egypt’s Aviation Industry

(IN BRIEF) ABL, a global energy and marine consultancy, has partnered with the Egyptian Holding Company for Airports and Air Navigation (EHCAAN) to advance carbon reduction efforts within Egypt’s aviation industry. The MoU, signed on February 3, 2025, focuses on researching and developing decarbonization strategies, such as carbon credits, renewable energy integration, and green hydrogen. The collaboration aims to reduce carbon emissions and enhance efficiency across Egypt’s aviation sector. ABL’s Cairo operation will lead the initiative, leveraging its expertise in energy transition projects, including a joint feasibility study with the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) for COP27. The project will explore various technologies to support Egypt’s sustainable aviation goals and will be highlighted at EGYPES 2025.

(PRESS RELEASE) LONDON, 11-Feb-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — In a significant step towards sustainable aviation, ABL, a leading global energy and marine consultancy, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Egyptian Holding Company for Airports and Air Navigation (EHCAAN). This partnership, formalized on February 3, 2025, aims to accelerate carbon reduction initiatives within Egypt’s aviation sector.

Under the MoU, both parties will collaborate on the research and development of innovative methodologies for decarbonizing aviation, including the introduction of carbon credits and other initiatives to reduce carbon emissions. Additionally, ABL and EHCAAN will work together on technology transfer, training, and capacity-building activities to help Egypt achieve its goal of a more sustainable aviation industry.

The collaboration will be led by ABL’s Cairo-based operation, formerly known as LOC Egypt, which has extensive expertise in supporting energy transition projects. “Aviation is a major contributor to carbon emissions, and we are proud to partner with EHCAAN in exploring carbon-reduction technologies, alternative fuels, and creating a roadmap for emissions reduction in Egypt’s aviation sector,” said Tamer Gamil, ABL’s Country Manager for Egypt. “With our experience in energy transition and expertise in renewable energy, hydrogen, and emissions consulting, ABL is well-positioned to support the aviation industry’s path to net-zero emissions.”

The scope of the collaboration will include the exploration of the technical and commercial feasibility of various carbon-reduction technologies, such as the hybridization and modernization of existing systems, integration of solar PV, and the potential of green hydrogen. ABL will also focus on driving efficiencies by integrating renewable energy sources across the aviation infrastructure.

ABL has a strong track record in supporting national energy transition projects, such as a feasibility study on transitioning offshore oil and gas tanker operations to net-zero, which was conducted in partnership with the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) for COP27. This project benefitted from the technical expertise of ABL Group’s subsidiary companies, OWC and Longitude, which specialize in renewable energy and facilities design and engineering, respectively.

As part of the collaboration, ABL will also participate in EGYPES 2025, where they will showcase their energy transition services at stand 2F49 and offer opportunities for discussions on how their solutions can support Egypt’s decarbonization goals in the aviation and other industrial sectors.
