ABP’s Port of Immingham donates thousand pounds to the Immingham Seafarer’s Centre and the Grimsby and Cleethorpes Sea Cadets

LONDON, 08-Sep-2017 — /EuropaWire/ — Employees from ABP’s Port of Immingham donated a thousand pounds to both the Immingham Seafarer’s Centre and the Grimsby and Cleethorpes Sea Cadets recently.

The donations were granted to ABP teams who succeeded at their internal awards ceremony, whereby a panel of judges shortlisted four Humber teams in categories such as operations, safety and environment.

Two of the four shortlisted teams won their category at the ABP Chairman’s Awards ceremony and as a prize, the teams each received £1,000 to donate to their chosen charity.

The teams decided to split their prize money between two deserving maritime charities which are based in the region.

Mark Frith, Port Manager for Grimsby and Immingham said: “It’s key that we support our local charities, especially those in the maritime industry who may often get overlooked. Every day, we see how important their work is and our teams chose to donate their prizes to the Seafarer’s and Sea Cadets as a token of our ongoing support.”

The Seafarers Centre in Immingham, headed up by Ros Dezelsky, the Director for Humber Seafarers’ Service Trading Limited, serves seafarers by supporting and assisting them through providing pastoral and practical care.

Staff from the Seafarers Centre include port chaplains and ship visitors who tend to thousands of seafarers a year who are travelling hundreds of miles from home to give them a helping hand whilst they are berthed alongside at the port in Immingham.

Ros Dezelsky, said: “It is through the generosity of people and organisations which make these donations that enables us to give a much needed supporting role to the seafarers from all over the world and provide the assistance they need. We greatly appreciate this donation and thank ABP for their continued support.”
