(IN BRIEF) RWE has won contracts for difference for four renewable projects in Italy during the FER-X auction, covering one wind farm and three solar and Agri-PV developments. The portfolio includes the 42 MW Serra Giannina wind farm in Basilicata, two Ponte Valentino solar plants totaling 17.65 MWac in Campania, and the 8 MWac Carcitella Agri-PV facility in Sicily. All projects are scheduled to break ground in 2026. CEO Katja Wünschel noted that the auction success marks a key step in expanding RWE’s Italian presence, reinforcing its position as a core contributor to the country’s renewable energy build-out. RWE currently operates 17 onshore wind farms totaling 598 MW and continues scaling its pipeline through new wind and Agri-PV investments.

(PRESS RELEASE) ESSEN / ROME, 5-Dec-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — RWE has secured new growth momentum in Italy’s renewable energy sector after four of its projects won contracts for difference in the country’s latest FER-X auction. The awarded portfolio includes the Serra Giannina onshore wind farm in Potenza, Basilicata, which will deploy six turbines delivering a combined capacity of 42 MW. The company will also develop two new solar installations — Ponte Valentino 1 and Ponte Valentino 2 — located in Benevento, Campania, comprising around 32,000 modules and generating 17.65 MWac in total. A further Agri-PV facility, the 8 MWac Carcitella plant featuring roughly 13,000 elevated tracker-mounted modules, is planned for Sicily. Construction of all four sites is expected to commence in 2026.

Katja Wünschel, CEO of RWE Renewables Europe & Australia, described the result as a milestone for the company’s Italian portfolio, highlighting the addition of a 20th onshore wind farm in the country. She emphasized that long-term auction competitiveness will depend on the alignment of bid values with actual technology costs to enable faster renewable deployment and greater clean-energy capacity.

RWE renewables footprint in Italy

RWE continues to hold a strong position in Italy’s energy transition, operating 17 onshore wind farms with a total installed capacity of 598 MW — supplying green power to over half a million households annually. The company follows a full-cycle project model encompassing development through to operations and energy marketing. Alongside previously commissioned Agri-PV sites Morcone (9.8 MWac) and Acquafredda (9.3 MWac) in Campania, RWE is currently building two more onshore wind projects: Serra Palino (47 MW) in Apulia and Venusia (45 MW) in Basilicata. In parallel to the FER-X win, RWE also secured success in the latest Agri-PV auction with three additional projects totaling 30.2 MW.
