Schibsted Media is excited to further strengthen its Nordic media presence with this acquisition.

(PRESS RELEASE) STOCKHOLM, 25-Feb-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Telia Company has announced its decision to sell its TV & Media business, including the TV4 and MTV brands in Sweden and Finland, to Schibsted Media for an enterprise value of SEK 6.55 billion. This move reflects Telia’s ongoing strategy of active portfolio management, focusing on its core connectivity business across the Nordic and Baltic regions. The sale, expected to close by Q3 2025, is contingent upon regulatory approvals and will be followed by a multi-year distribution partnership where Telia will continue offering TV4 and MTV content as part of its consumer TV offerings.

Patrik Hofbauer, President and CEO of Telia, highlighted the company’s strategic focus: “Our primary focus remains on delivering world-class connectivity to millions of people every day. This transaction represents our commitment to that goal, while also ensuring a secure future for TV & Media under Schibsted, a long-term Nordic owner who can grow the business while preserving its editorial independence. Through this partnership, Telia will continue to provide TV4 and MTV content as part of our TV service, maintaining our leadership in customer satisfaction in Sweden.”

The sale proceeds will primarily be used to reduce Telia’s debt. The company anticipates reporting the TV & Media segment as held for sale in Q1 2025 and expects a non-cash impairment of approximately SEK 2 billion. Despite this change, Telia’s financial outlook remains largely unchanged, with the company’s 2025 free cash flow forecast now adjusted to SEK 7.5 billion from SEK 8 billion due to the exclusion of the TV & Media business. Other financial metrics, such as service revenue growth and EBITDA growth, remain consistent with previous guidance.

Siv Juvik Tveitnes, CEO of Schibsted Media, expressed excitement about the deal: “This is a historic moment for us as we deepen our commitment to Sweden. As competition with global tech giants intensifies, it’s critical to strengthen our national media presence with scale and the capacity for investment, all while safeguarding editorial independence. This acquisition marks a major step in building a leading Nordic media entity.”

Schibsted Media, headquartered in Oslo, has a long history in Nordic media, owning prominent news brands like VG, Aftenposten, Aftonbladet, and Svenska Dagbladet. In Sweden, the TV & Media business encompasses the TV4 family of channels, the TV4 Play streaming service, and additional websites. In Finland, it includes MTV’s television channels and streaming services.

This press release is made public in compliance with the EU Market Abuse Regulation and was submitted for publication at 07:00 CET on February 25, 2025.
