(PRESS RELEASE) STOCKHOLM, 14-Nov-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — The Global Child Forum (GCF) has published its latest annual report, highlighting Telia’s significant efforts in advancing children’s rights. This week, the forum recognized Telia for its leadership, ranking the company as the top performer in Sweden and third overall in the Nordic region. The assessment, conducted in collaboration with Boston Consulting Group, evaluates the performance of 1,802 global companies across 25 metrics, including governance, environmental efforts, and marketing, with a particular focus on how these companies integrate children’s rights into their operations and value chains.

Telia’s commitment to protecting and promoting children’s rights is reflected in several key initiatives. For instance, the company provides free communications access to Sweden’s child helpline, BRIS, and supports awareness-building efforts in schools and summer camps around critical topics like cybersecurity. Telia has also developed a unique methodology for assessing the impact of its products on children’s rights, such as evaluating smartwatches from a child privacy and safety perspective.

Additionally, the company offers tools like the Mobile Driving License, designed for children aged 8 to 11, to facilitate conversations between children and their parents about online safety. Telia’s family-oriented services include software that allows parents to control screen time and block harmful content, helping to protect children in the digital world. Each year, the company sets clear goals and tracks its progress regarding children’s rights in its Annual Report.

Anna Augustson, Telia’s Head of Group Sustainability, emphasized the importance of fostering a safer online environment for children, stating, “Children are exposed to both incredible opportunities and significant risks online. Our approach is focused on empowering families and building resilience, while ensuring they have the tools to navigate the digital world safely. It’s gratifying to receive such prominent recognition for our ongoing leadership, especially as children’s lives become more interconnected.”

The GCF, based in Stockholm, is a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing children’s rights through business practices. The full report, titled The State of Children’s Rights & Business 2024, is available for further reading.
