(PRESS RELEASE) FARNBOROUGH, 2-Nov-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — BAE Systems has secured a contract with the Dutch Materiel and IT Command (COMMIT) to supply eight Bofors 40Mk4 naval gun systems for use by the Royal Netherlands and Belgian Navies. This contract forms a critical part of the two nations’ anti-submarine warfare frigate program, a collaborative effort to equip each country with two state-of-the-art frigates, each fitted with two advanced naval gun systems.

The inclusion of BAE Systems’ 3P programmable ammunition enhances the firepower and adaptability of the Bofors 40Mk4, designed for rapid response in anti-aircraft and anti-surface warfare. With the flexibility to switch between six programmable modes, the 3P ammunition enables precision targeting across air, land, and sea threats, equipping the frigates with comprehensive combat versatility.

The contract covers installation, crew training, documentation, and a stock of spare parts and tools, with an option for additional training guns. BAE Systems plans to deliver the first of these gun systems by 2026.

Stefan Löfström, BAE Systems Bofors’ Marketing & Sales Director, emphasized the importance of this milestone, noting that the advanced capabilities of the Bofors 40Mk4 align with BAE Systems’ commitment to supporting NATO allies and strengthening Europe’s defensive readiness.
