LEGO Group Begins Construction on Innovation Campus to Foster Creativity and Sustainability in Product Design

(PRESS RELEASE) BILLUND, 1-Nov-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — The LEGO Group has officially broken ground on its new 50,000-square-meter Innovation Campus at its global headquarters in Billund. Led by CEO Niels B Christiansen and Chief Product and Marketing Officer Julia Goldin, the ceremony marks the start of construction on a facility that will bring together 1,700 employees, including more than 600 designers, across various departments focused on product development, marketing, and digital innovation. Designed by CEBRA Architects, the Innovation Campus is structured to reflect LEGO’s commitment to creativity, sustainability, and collaborative work environments. The building, constructed from FSC-certified timber, is set to meet LEED Platinum standards, enhancing energy efficiency and incorporating sustainable materials and water conservation features. The campus will also host one of the largest collections of LEGO elements, with a library of approximately 20,000 pieces in 70 colors, underscoring LEGO’s dedication to design innovation.

The campus’s design process, guided by input from LEGO employees, includes collaborative zones, play areas, and a central “PlayWay” pathway connecting different sections of the building. Julia Goldin noted that this creative workspace reflects the LEGO brand’s modular ethos, uniting global teams to explore and develop new dimensions in physical and digital LEGO experiences.

Scheduled to open in 2027, the Innovation Campus is part of the LEGO Group’s larger investment in its Danish headquarters, adding to the LEGO Campus opened in 2022 and the upcoming Kornmarken Campus. As a global center for product and design excellence, the campus aims to bring LEGO’s design and development under one roof, supporting a seamless creative process and furthering the company’s mission to innovate in every aspect of the LEGO experience.
