MAN Unveils 2025 Lion with New PowerLion Drivetrain for Greater Efficiency and Comfort

(IN BRIEF) At the IAA Transportation 2024, MAN Truck & Bus unveiled the 2025 model of the MAN Lion, featuring improved fuel efficiency, lower CO2 emissions, and enhanced driver comfort. The new PowerLion drivetrain, including the D30 engine and TipMatic 14 transmission, reduces fuel consumption by up to 4%. These updates, combined with aerodynamic improvements and an advanced brake system, make the new MAN trucks more economical and environmentally friendly. The trucks also offer improved interior features, better sound insulation, and simplified fleet cost management through the SimplePay platform.

(PRESS RELEASE) MUNICH, 19-Sep-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — At the IAA Transportation 2024, MAN Truck & Bus introduced the MAN Lion for the 2025 model year, showcasing significant improvements in fuel efficiency and driving comfort. Central to these innovations is the new PowerLion drivetrain, which reduces fuel consumption by up to 4%. This advancement is particularly timely given the new CO2-based toll classifications in countries like Germany, Austria, and Denmark, where fuel-efficient vehicles can now achieve considerable cost savings over their operational life.

Friedrich Baumann, Executive Board Member for Sales & Customer Solutions at MAN, emphasized the importance of the new D30 engine and the TipMatic 14 transmission, stating, “While we anticipate electric drives will dominate road freight transport in the future, diesel engines still play a crucial role in the interim. Every litre of fuel saved cuts costs and emissions, helping our customers transition to zero-emission technologies more easily.”

The newly developed D30 engine, with its industry-leading efficiency of over 50%, replaces the previous D26 and D15 engines in MAN’s 4×2 semitrailer tractors. Available in six power levels, the D30 integrates advanced turbocharging and common rail injection systems to optimize performance and reduce fuel consumption. The engine is paired with the new MAN TipMatic 14 gearbox, which features smart shifting technology for seamless, fuel-efficient gear changes.

In addition to drivetrain enhancements, MAN has made improvements in aerodynamics and braking systems. New aerodynamic underbody paneling and redesigned frame features reduce drag and enhance fuel efficiency. Meanwhile, an innovative brake system minimizes friction and wear, further contributing to fuel savings and vehicle longevity.

The interior of the 2025 MAN Lion models has also seen upgrades, including enhanced acoustic insulation, new display functionalities, and refreshed interior design options. The improved soundproofing and redesigned cab layout enhance driver comfort, while new digital instrument clusters provide crucial information at a glance, improving usability on the road.

With the introduction of MAN’s SimplePay platform, fleet managers can now better control operational costs by digitally managing fuel, parking, and maintenance payments. This service, available through the MAN Driver App, simplifies cost tracking for mixed or MAN-exclusive fleets across multiple regions.

The updated MAN models, available for order starting in October 2024, reflect the company’s commitment to efficiency, sustainability, and driver satisfaction, ensuring that customers benefit from both immediate cost savings and long-term operational advantages.
