(PRESS RELEASE) ZURICH, 11-Jun-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Swissport’s continued commitment to excellence in handling pharmaceutical products at Frankfurt Airport (FRA) has been affirmed with the renewal of its CEIV Pharma certification by the International Airline Transport Organization (IATA). This certification recognizes Swissport’s unwavering dedication to maintaining the highest quality and security standards in pharmaceutical logistics.

Andreas Behnke, Head of Swissport Cargo Services for Germany and Austria at Frankfurt Airport, emphasized the significance of this recertification: “The renewal of our CEIV Pharma certification underscores our steadfast commitment to providing safe, efficient, and reliable pharmaceutical logistics solutions for our global customers. Our operations at Frankfurt Airport not only benefit our airline customers and logistics partners but also contribute to reinforcing Frankfurt’s position as a critical hub for dependable temperature-controlled supply chains.”

Swissport’s state-of-the-art cargo facility at Frankfurt Airport, inaugurated in November 2020, has been pivotal in supporting critical pharma logistics, especially during the pandemic. Spanning over 17,000 square meters, the facility features a cutting-edge Swissport Pharma Center with dedicated areas for temperature-controlled pharmaceutical shipments, ensuring optimal storage conditions for sensitive products.

In line with its focus on digitalization and sustainability, Swissport has made significant investments in modern equipment and technology at its Frankfurt facility. This includes an automated material handling system capable of efficiently storing and retrieving up to 115 main deck unit load devices (ULDs). Dirk Goovaerts, Global Cargo Chair and CEO of Swissport’s CEMEAI region, highlighted Swissport’s commitment to advancing cargo operations through innovations such as mobile devices, AI-based support tools, and Bluetooth ULD tracking.

Furthermore, sustainability lies at the core of Swissport’s operations, exemplified by its all-electric fleet of ground service vehicles and the largest photovoltaic system at Frankfurt Airport, generating sustainable solar energy.

In addition to its pharmaceutical handling capabilities, Swissport has expanded its service portfolio at Frankfurt Airport to include freight forwarder handling, complementing its existing range of air cargo services for airlines. This strategic move aligns with Swissport’s holistic approach to serving the logistics community comprehensively.

Swissport’s presence at Frankfurt Airport extends beyond cargo handling, encompassing fueling services through its subsidiary AFS and de-icing services through NICE, further enhancing its comprehensive service offerings at this pivotal aviation and logistics hub.

DIGITALIZATION AND SUSTAINABILITY

At its Frankfurt facility, Swissport has invested heavily in digitalization and modern equipment to streamline operations and to increase efficiency across the global logistics chain. The warehouse located in the CargoCity South area has direct tarmac access and is equipped with advanced handling technology, facilitating seamless air cargo operations. The automated material handling system (MHS) can store and retrieve up to 115 main deck unit load devices (ULDs).

“As a global expert in cargo operations, Swissport continues to drive the digitalization of its air cargo business to handle air cargo even more efficiently and intelligently. The Swissport mobile devices, fully interfaced weighing system, AI based support tools, cargo kiosks, door management systems, slot booking and Bluetooth ULD tracking are examples of innovations that are in operation, providing Swissport with the ability to process air freight competitively,” adds Dirk Goovaerts, Global Cargo Chair and CEO of Swissport’s CEMEAI region.

Swissport’s commitment to sustainability is deeply embedded in its corporate DNA and is prominently reflected in its Frankfurt warehouse operations. The facility operates an all-electric fleet of ground service vehicles, significantly reducing its carbon footprint. Additionally, it boasts the largest photovoltaic system at Frankfurt Airport, generating over 1.5 million kWh of sustainable solar energy annually.
