wpd and Nomura Real Estate Ink 7.48 MW CPPA for Higashi Izu Furusato Wind Farm in Japan

(IN BRIEF) wpd has secured a CPPA with Nomura Real Estate Development for the 7.48 MW Higashi Izu Furusato onshore wind farm in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. Developed alongside GPSS Group, the project will deploy three Enercon turbines and begin operations in May 2026 despite challenging mountainous terrain. NF Power Services will route the clean electricity and certificates to Nomura’s new Tokyo headquarters, ensuring CO₂‑free power. Hans‑Christoph Brumberg of wpd highlights this as the firm’s first grid‑connected project in Asia outside Taiwan, while Nomura’s Hiroyuki Nakagawa emphasizes its role in advancing the company’s decarbonization targets. wpd’s broader pipeline spans over 19 GW of wind and 5 GW of solar projects across multiple Asian markets and beyond.

(PRESS RELEASE) BREMEN, 16-Jul-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — wpd, in partnership with the GPSS Group (Higashi Izu Wind Power Godo Kaisha), has finalized a corporate power purchase agreement (CPPA) with Nomura Real Estate Development Co., Ltd. for the Higashi Izu Furusato onshore wind project in Japan.

Nestled on a coastal mountain ridge in Shizuoka Prefecture—about 120 km southwest of Tokyo—the Higashi Izu Furusato Wind Power Plant faces steep and uneven terrain, necessitating specialized delivery and construction methods. Once complete, the facility will feature three Enercon turbines with a combined capacity of 7.48 MW and is slated to commence operations in May 2026.

Under Japanese regulations, the generated electricity and associated green certificates will be sold through NF Power Services Co., Ltd. (NFPS) and delivered directly to Nomura Real Estate’s new Tokyo headquarters. This arrangement ensures the office is powered entirely by CO₂‑free energy.

Hans‑Christoph Brumberg, General Manager Asia at wpd, remarked, “Higashi Izu marks our first grid‑connected project in Asia outside Taiwan. We’re proud to leverage our PPA expertise to help Nomura Real Estate advance its sustainability ambitions.”

Echoing this commitment, Hiroyuki Nakagawa, General Manager of the Sustainability Management Department at Nomura Real Estate Holdings, Inc., added, “By transitioning our energy usage to renewables, we’re driving towards our group‑wide decarbonization targets. Partnering with wpd allows us to secure a reliable supply of clean energy for years to come.”

Beyond Taiwan and Japan, wpd is active in South Korea, Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Mongolia, boasting a development pipeline of 19,320 MW in wind and 5,015 MW in solar projects. As one of the world’s foremost developers and operators of wind and solar farms, wpd continues to expand both domestically and across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Its in‑house portfolio already exceeds 3,500 MW, underscoring the company’s pivotal role in global decarbonization efforts.
