Wood to deliver project management consultancy for Turkey’s largest polypropylene plant under $18 million contracts

(IN BRIEF) Wood has secured $18 million in contracts to provide project management consultancy for Turkey’s largest polypropylene plant and terminal facility, part of the Ceyhan project in Adana province. Deploying more than 70 experts, Wood will oversee EPC works for the plant, designed to produce 472,500 tons of polypropylene annually using renewable electricity and hydrogen fuel. This facility will triple Turkey’s domestic output, cover 17% of national demand, and significantly cut carbon emissions. Developed by Rönesans Holding in partnership with Sonatrach and Stolt-Nielsen, the project marks a major step in Turkey’s drive for petrochemical self-sufficiency.

(PRESS RELEASE) ABERDEEN, 21-Aug-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Wood, a global consulting and engineering leader, has been appointed to deliver project management consultancy (PMC) services for the development of Turkey’s largest polypropylene plant and its associated terminal facility, both part of the Ceyhan project in Adana province.

Under contracts valued at $18 million over three years, Wood will provide more than 70 project management specialists to oversee the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of the polypropylene plant and support the engineering and procurement of the terminal facility.

The Ceyhan industrial zone plant will be a landmark for Turkey’s petrochemical industry, with an annual production capacity of 472,500 tons of polypropylene—a figure that will triple Turkey’s domestic output. The plant is designed with sustainability at its core, operating on 100% renewable electricity and hydrogen fuel generated on-site, which will substantially reduce carbon emissions compared to conventional production.

Once operational, the facility will cover approximately 17% of Turkey’s polypropylene demand, bolstering the country’s energy and industrial independence by reducing reliance on imports. The terminal facility, meanwhile, will focus on propane storage and distribution, strategically located near high-demand petrochemical areas and major ports to strengthen regional supply chains.

Gerry Traynor, President of Projects Eastern Hemisphere at Wood, commented:
“The Ceyhan project represents one of Turkey’s most ambitious industrial investments and will play a pivotal role in reducing import dependency while advancing sustainability in the chemical sector. By applying our project management expertise, Wood is proud to contribute to a development that not only strengthens Turkey’s economy but also sets a new standard for lower-carbon petrochemical production.”

The plant is being developed as a joint venture between Rönesans Holding, a Turkish investment and contracting company, and Sonatrach, Algeria’s national energy firm. The terminal facility is a joint venture between Rönesans Holding and Stolt-Nielsen, a global leader in bulk liquid storage.
