(PRESS RELEASE) ABERDEEN, 30-Oct-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Wood, a global consulting and engineering firm, has been awarded a major contract by Aramco to provide engineering services for the Southern and Northern Areas gas increment projects in Saudi Arabia. This expansive initiative, requiring an estimated one million engineering hours, aligns with Saudi Arabia’s strategy to boost natural gas production capacity.

Under the contract, Wood will offer project management consultancy (PMC) services, covering Pre-Front End Engineering Design (Pre-FEED) and Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) for key gas facilities in Eastern Saudi Arabia, including large-scale onshore gas production and processing. The scope also includes support for EPC contracting in later project phases, contributing to a structured path for sustainable energy growth in the region.

Craig Shanaghey, Wood’s Executive President of Projects, highlighted the critical role of natural gas as a transitional energy source capable of reducing carbon emissions associated with energy production. Shanaghey expressed confidence in Wood’s extensive experience, built over a 30-year partnership with Aramco, to contribute to this large-scale expansion aimed at meeting rising global energy needs.

With a seven-year project timeline, Wood’s team will expand to over 400 employees, with operations centered in Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia, and supported by teams in Reading, UK, and Chennai, India.
