(PRESS RELEASE) ZURICH, 29-Nov-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — The Board of Directors of SIX has announced the appointment of Bjørn Sibbern as the company’s new CEO, effective January 1, 2025. Sibbern will succeed Jos Dijsselhof, who is stepping down after seven years at the helm to pursue a new professional opportunity in the Middle East. Under Dijsselhof’s leadership, SIX experienced significant commercial growth and expanded its international presence.

Since early 2024, Bjørn Sibbern has served as the Global Head Exchanges at SIX and a member of the Group Executive Board, overseeing its international exchange operations. With over 20 years of experience in capital markets, Sibbern has held leadership roles at Nasdaq, OMX Exchanges, and as CEO of E*TRADE Bank Denmark. A Danish national, he brings a strong academic background, holding an Executive MBA, a diploma in Business Administration, and an MSc in Economics and Business Law from the Copenhagen Business School.

Thomas Wellauer, Chairman of SIX, expressed confidence in Sibbern’s leadership, stating, “Bjørn’s extensive expertise in capital markets, coupled with his proven leadership abilities, makes him the ideal choice to guide SIX into its next phase of growth. Over the past year, he has demonstrated exceptional motivation and strategic vision, and I am confident he will build on the strong foundation laid by his predecessor.”

During his tenure as CEO, Jos Dijsselhof spearheaded several transformative initiatives for SIX. He successfully realigned the company’s strategy, including the sale of its card business to Worldline, and broadened its portfolio through key acquisitions, most notably the purchase of the Spanish Stock Exchange BME. Dijsselhof also drove innovation by championing projects such as SDX, the digital exchange platform, and played a critical role in modernizing the corporate culture at SIX, ensuring its readiness for future opportunities.

Dijsselhof will remain with SIX until February 2025, overseeing a smooth leadership transition. Reflecting on his contributions, Chairman Wellauer stated, “On behalf of the Board, I extend our deepest gratitude to Jos for his exceptional leadership and vision. His efforts have not only strengthened the global position of SIX but also laid the groundwork for sustained growth and innovation. We wish him great success in his future endeavors.”
