Siemens Expands Industrial-Grade Private 5G Infrastructure to Enhance Connectivity Across Europe and Brazil

(IN BRIEF) Siemens has enhanced its industrial-grade private 5G infrastructure to support larger industrial areas, now covering up to 24 radio units, each providing connectivity for 5,000 m². This solution is available in six European countries and Brazil, with more countries to follow in 2025. Siemens also introduced the Scalance MUB852-1, a compact 5G router for cabinet use, as part of its Xcelerator portfolio. The infrastructure addresses the limitations of traditional Wi-Fi in industrial environments, offering reliable connectivity for mission-critical applications. Its user-friendly design ensures easy configuration and management, making it suitable for various industries, including manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, and mining.

(PRESS RELEASE) NUREMBERG, 16-Jan-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Siemens has made significant advancements to its industrial-grade private 5G infrastructure, extending its capabilities to cover larger industrial areas. This enhanced solution, which now supports up to 24 radio units—each capable of covering approximately 5,000 m²—offers expanded connectivity and greater flexibility for manufacturers. The infrastructure is already available in six European countries, including Germany, Sweden, Netherlands, Switzerland, Denmark, and Austria, as well as Brazil, with plans for further expansion in 2025.

In addition to the infrastructure update, Siemens has launched the compact Scalance MUB852-1, a new 5G router designed for cabinet use, which is part of the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio. This entry-level router is compatible with the Siemens Simatic ET200 I/O and integrates smoothly into the Siemens Totally Integrated Automation (TIA) landscape. The new system offers industrial environments a reliable connectivity solution at a time when traditional Wi-Fi networks are increasingly strained due to congestion in factory settings.

Axel Lorenz, CEO of Process Automation at Siemens, remarked, “Our enhanced private 5G infrastructure represents a key step in the evolution of connected production. By supporting larger industrial areas while maintaining top-notch connectivity, we are meeting the needs of modern manufacturing operations.” The private 5G solution provides a dedicated network to address the limitations of unlicensed Wi-Fi, improving communication reliability and enabling integration of smart sensors and edge devices for data-driven decision-making.

The system’s user-friendly design ensures easy installation and operation. With only 20 variables to configure and an intuitive dashboard that simplifies network status monitoring, Siemens’ solution is accessible even to non-IT users, allowing companies to set up and manage their networks with minimal technical expertise. This private 5G infrastructure is particularly suited to sectors like manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, food and beverage, intralogistics, and mining, offering enhanced cybersecurity and data privacy through on-site installation. Additionally, companies can adapt their networks to meet evolving demands and perform quick troubleshooting.

Lorenz added, “The industrial landscape is moving away from generic connectivity solutions. Our private industrial 5G infrastructure gives manufacturers the freedom to design a tailored digital backbone for their operations, whether it’s for a single production line or an entire smart factory.”
