(IN BRIEF) HOCHTIEF has won a contract worth up to EUR 900 million to design and expand a 26-kilometer section of the East Link railway near Stockholm in partnership with Trafikverket. The OL31 Vagnhärad section, located southwest of the city, is part of a larger 160-kilometer rail project connecting Järna and Linköping. The work will include building tunnels, major bridges, and a new railway station, with the construction phase expected to run through 2034. The project strengthens HOCHTIEF’s position in large-scale rail infrastructure while contributing to improved rail capacity and sustainable transportation in Northern Europe. The company continues to work on several major rail initiatives worldwide, including California High-Speed Rail in the United States, the Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail project in Australia, and a Deutsche Bahn rail expansion project along the Rhine in Germany.

(PRESS RELEASE) MADRID, 11-Mar-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — HOCHTIEF has been selected to take on the design and expansion of a 26-kilometer segment of Sweden’s East Link railway corridor near Stockholm, reinforcing the company’s involvement in large-scale rail infrastructure developments across Europe. The contract, valued at up to approximately EUR 900 million (9.5 billion SEK), will be carried out in close collaboration with Trafikverket, the Swedish Transport Administration, under a partnership framework. Once the planning and design work is completed, the construction phase is expected to continue through 2034.

Juan Santamaría, CEO of ACS Group and HOCHTIEF, highlighted the strategic importance of the project and the company’s ability to deliver complex transport systems. He emphasized that HOCHTIEF’s integrated expertise across planning, engineering, and construction allows it to deliver advanced rail infrastructure that supports long-term mobility needs. The expansion of the East Link route is intended to enhance rail capacity while contributing to the development of more sustainable and efficient transportation networks across Northern Europe.

The contract specifically relates to the OL31 Vagnhärad section, located southwest of the Swedish capital. This portion forms part of the wider East Link program, a planned 160-kilometer rail connection designed to link Järna and Linköping. The Vagnhärad segment will involve major engineering works, including the construction of several tunnels, large-scale bridge structures, and a new railway station, all of which will play a key role in improving regional connectivity along the route.

Globally, HOCHTIEF continues to expand its presence in major rail infrastructure initiatives. The company is currently involved in several high-profile rail developments, including the construction of a significant stretch of the California High-Speed Rail project in the United States as well as the Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail project in Australia. In Germany, HOCHTIEF also secured a major railway modernization contract from Deutsche Bahn last July, covering the expansion of a 42-kilometer double-track route along the right bank of the Rhine between Wiesbaden and Lorchhausen as part of the broader upgrade of the national rail network.
