Siemens and Capgemini Partner with Airbus to Decarbonize Industrial Sites in the U.S. and UK by 2030

(IN BRIEF) Airbus has joined forces with Siemens and Capgemini to decarbonize four of its major industrial sites in the U.S. and UK as part of an ambitious program targeting a 20% reduction in energy use and an 85% reduction in CO₂ emissions by 2030. Siemens will implement digital twin technology and smart energy systems to optimize consumption and support on-site renewable generation, while Capgemini contributes consulting and project management expertise. The initiative builds on more than 50 years of collaboration between Siemens and Airbus, extending their partnership into a new phase focused on sustainability and industrial resilience. Infrastructure upgrades are expected to begin in 2026, with Siemens managing the long-term operation and efficiency of the systems.

(PRESS RELEASE) MUNICH, 13-Oct-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Siemens and Airbus have announced a strategic collaboration aimed at decarbonizing four major Airbus industrial facilities across the United States and the United Kingdom. The initiative, supported by Capgemini, is designed to significantly reduce the aerospace manufacturer’s energy consumption and carbon emissions through the deployment of advanced digital and energy-efficient technologies.

Under the framework agreement, Siemens will lead the implementation of a comprehensive decarbonization roadmap for the selected sites, with Capgemini providing consulting, project management, and planning expertise. The first phase of the project, launched in the summer of 2025, focuses on developing detailed energy and carbon-reduction strategies tailored to each location. By 2030, the program aims to cut energy consumption by 20% and reduce CO₂ emissions by 85%, contributing to Airbus’s goal of achieving a total reduction of 80 kilotonnes of CO₂ equivalent annually from 2030 onward.

The partnership will employ digital twin technology to model and simulate energy systems across Airbus’s facilities. These virtual replicas will allow the project team to assess consumption patterns, optimize efficiency, and test potential sustainability measures before implementation. Among the planned measures are on-site renewable energy generation, the installation of heat pumps, energy-efficient upgrades, intelligent metering, and advanced energy management systems to monitor and optimize performance in real time.

Infrastructure development is scheduled to begin in 2026, marking a key milestone in Airbus’s long-term sustainability strategy. Siemens will also oversee the operation and maintenance of the new systems, ensuring consistent efficiency, reliability, and scalability.

The collaboration continues a longstanding partnership between Siemens and Airbus that spans more than five decades. Their joint initiatives have previously advanced innovation in factory automation, industrial software, safety and security, and building management systems. With the addition of Capgemini’s expertise, the new decarbonization program represents a major step toward establishing low-carbon industrial operations across Airbus’s global footprint.
