SGS Partners with The PLEDGE on Food Waste to Certify Sustainability in Food Service

(IN BRIEF) SGS has partnered with The PLEDGE on Food Waste to offer certification and independent audits to food service providers under a framework of seven pillars and 95 criteria that address every step from procurement to disposal. This initiative expands SGS’s IMPACT NOW for Sustainability suite—covering climate, circularity, nature, and ESG—and supports its goal of generating CHF 600 million in sustainability-driven revenue by 2027, versus CHF 400 million in 2023.

(PRESS RELEASE) GENEVA, 13-Jun-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — SGS, the world’s foremost testing, inspection, and certification company, has forged a strategic alliance with The PLEDGE on Food Waste—a globally recognized, third-party audited certification program that empowers food service providers to methodically curb food waste and elevate sustainability. Underpinned by seven pillars and 95 rigorous criteria, The PLEDGE framework guides operators through each operational phase—from procurement and preparation to recovery and disposal.

As an accredited certification body for The PLEDGE on Food Waste, SGS will conduct impartial audits and issue certifications to hospitality, catering, and food service enterprises. These services will help clients shrink their environmental footprint, enhance operational efficiencies, and showcase authentic sustainability leadership to customers, investors, and regulators.

This collaboration bolsters SGS’s preeminence in sustainability services and enriches its IMPACT NOW for Sustainability portfolio—spanning climate action, circular economy solutions, nature conservation, and ESG assurance. Supporting SGS’s ambitious targets, the company projects that sustainability services will contribute at least CHF 600 million in additional revenue by 2027, up from CHF 400 million in 2023.

Geraldine Picaud, CEO of SGS, stated:
“As a global leader in sustainability services, we are thrilled to join forces with The PLEDGE on Food Waste.
