SGS Expands Certification Services to Support New E-Micromobility Safety Regulations in New South Wales

(IN BRIEF) SGS is expanding its testing and certification services to comply with new regulations in New South Wales, Australia, aimed at improving the safety of e-micromobility devices and batteries. This expansion allows SGS to issue certifications for e-bikes, e-scooters, e-skateboards, and hoverboards, ensuring that these products meet the required safety standards for the Australian market.

(PRESS RELEASE) GENEVA, 7-May-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — SGS is excited to announce an expansion in its testing and certification services for e-micromobility devices and batteries, ensuring compliance with new safety regulations implemented by the Government of New South Wales (NSW), Australia.

Starting February 1, 2025, mandatory certification requirements will be enforced for e-bikes and their batteries in order to enhance consumer safety and prevent unsafe products from entering the market. Manufacturers and retailers of e-bikes, e-scooters, e-skateboards, hoverboards, and their respective batteries in NSW will be required to meet prescribed standards and submit the necessary test reports and documentation for certification approval.

As an approved certification body accredited under AS/NZS ISO/IEC 17065 by the Joint Accreditation System of Australia and New Zealand (JAS-ANZ), SGS is well-positioned to issue certificates of approval under the new NSW regulations. Our testing services for e-micromobility devices and batteries are recognized under both the NSW Recognised External Approval Scheme (REAS) and Queensland Recognised External Certification Scheme (RECS).

The relevant standards for certification include:

E-bikes:
