Sener Expands Leadership Role in European Defense, Participating in Six Key Projects under EDF 2024

(IN BRIEF) Sener is actively involved in six key projects under the European Defence Fund (EDF) for 2024, including BEAST, AI-WASP, ePERFECT, AURIGA, and NEREUS. These projects span various defense technologies, from missile systems to autonomous navigation and multifunctional communications. Sener’s contributions are backed by its expertise in high-precision systems and its ongoing commitment to advancing European defense capabilities. The company’s role in more than 20 EDF projects since 2021 highlights its continued leadership in the sector.

(PRESS RELEASE) MADRID, 13-May-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Sener continues to strengthen its role as a leading technological and industrial partner in Europe, participating in six major projects under the European Defence Fund (EDF) in its 2024 call. The company’s involvement in these projects, including BEAST, AI-WASP, ePERFECT, AURIGA, and NEREUS, reinforces its commitment to European industrial collaboration and innovation in defense technologies.

Sener’s contributions span several areas, including missile systems, autonomous navigation, multifunctional communications, and high-performance electronic components. As of 2024, the company is engaged in a total of 20 EDF projects since the fund’s inception in 2021, with notable contributions to EU HYDEF, the first program focused on developing a European interceptor missile for hypersonic threats, and COMMANDS, where Sener leads a multinational consortium focused on autonomous land convoy navigation.

The BEAST program, aimed at advancing missile system technologies, will develop a multi-role short-range missile for air-to-air, ground-based air defense, and air-to-surface operations. Sener, leveraging its expertise in missile system engineering and navigation, is playing a key role in this project, building on its experience with missiles in the European inventory like IRIS-T, METEOR, and PATRIOT.

AI-WASP seeks to develop a cutting-edge AI-based multifunctional aperture and processing unit solution for small and medium-sized unmanned aerial systems and ground vehicles. Sener’s contributions to this project include expertise in electronically-pointable antennas, particularly for airborne systems, drawing from its experience in remote carrier communications in the NGWS-FCAS program.

The ePERFECT project focuses on developing RF-CMOS components for military applications, with Sener contributing to the creation of high-performance components such as transceivers and processors. This initiative also aims to establish a European supply chain for these components, enhancing military communications and strengthening European defense capabilities.

AURIGA addresses the need for an Armoured Infantry Fighting Vehicle (AIFV) by incorporating innovative technologies to improve protection, mobility, firepower, and situational awareness. Sener is contributing its knowledge in manned-unmanned teaming (MUT), situational awareness, and integration to enhance the vehicle’s operational capabilities.

Finally, Sener is involved in NEREUS, a project coordinated by Navantia, which aims to develop the intelligent System of Systems for integration into future naval combat platforms. This project will play a critical role in advancing the capabilities of future naval forces.

Rafael Orbe, Managing Director of Defence at Sener, commented: “We are proud to be part of these important projects, which align perfectly with our focus on communications, autonomous navigation, and high-precision electromechanical and targeting systems. Our involvement in the EDF programs underpins our role as a technological leader in the European defense sector.”
