Saab Secures SEK 2.1 Billion Order for Advanced Air Defence System in Latvia

(IN BRIEF) Saab has signed a framework agreement with the Latvian Ministry of Defence for its RBS 70 NG short-range ground-based air defence system, receiving an order valued at SEK 2.1 billion. The order includes firing units, missiles, and trainer units, with deliveries planned from 2026 to 2030. The advanced RBS 70 NG system features an automatic target tracker and an integrated night sight, allowing it to effectively detect and engage threats like aircraft, drones, and missiles up to nine kilometres away. According to Görgen Johansson of Saab, this system will significantly bolster the Latvian National Armed Forces’ capability to counter aerial threats.

(PRESS RELEASE) STOCKHOLM, 1-Apr-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Saab has secured a framework agreement with the Latvian Ministry of Defence for its advanced short-range ground-based air defence system, RBS 70 NG, and has received an order valued at SEK 2.1 billion. Deliveries of the system are scheduled to take place between 2026 and 2030. The contract covers not only the RBS 70 NG firing units and missiles but also trainer units designed to support effective system operation.
