Saab and Airservices Australia Sign Long-Term Service Agreement to Support Tower Automation at Major Airports

(IN BRIEF) Saab and Airservices Australia have signed a master service agreement covering automation services for major airports in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth. The partnership ensures the ongoing deployment and upgrade of Saab’s Integrated Air Traffic Control Suite (I-ATS) and includes the creation of a new ATM Centre of Excellence in Australia to provide operational support and further digital development. Saab leaders said the agreement supports their transition toward next-generation digital solutions, while Airservices Australia noted that the partnership strengthens its ability to manage air traffic safely and efficiently across key hubs. The deal supports future scalability into additional airports and contributes to the long-term evolution of Australia’s aviation sector.

(PRESS RELEASE) STOCKHOLM, 4-Dec-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Saab has entered into a new long-term master service agreement with Airservices Australia, strengthening a collaboration that supports air traffic management at four of the country’s busiest airports — Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth. The agreement confirms the continued use and ongoing upgrade of Saab’s Integrated Air Traffic Control Suite (I-ATS), an advanced tower automation platform designed to enhance safety, efficiency and digital capability within aviation operations. The framework also allows for potential deployment to additional airports in the future.

As part of this renewed partnership, Saab will establish an Air Traffic Management Centre of Excellence in Australia, which will provide local technical support, drive platform optimisation and contribute to long-term digital transformation within the sector. The center is expected to play an important role in supporting Airservices Australia as traffic volumes grow and operational demands evolve, while also promoting innovation across the national aviation ecosystem.

Cecilia Larsson, Head of Saab Air Traffic Management, noted that the collaboration aligns with Saab’s strategy to modernise and evolve its technology portfolio:
“At Saab we are transforming our product range to meet the opportunities of the digital era, and this agreement gives us a strong foundation to continue that journey together with Airservices Australia.”

Welcoming the agreement, Mark Hind, Chief Technology Enablement Officer at Airservices Australia, highlighted the significance of advanced automation in managing the country’s airspace:
“Airservices Australia welcomes the continued partnership with Saab through this new service agreement, which supports our major airports with advanced tower automation technology. Saab’s investment in an ATM Centre of Excellence aligns with our commitment to innovation and the safe, efficient management of air traffic across the country.”

Airservices Australia is a government-owned corporation responsible for overseeing the safe and orderly flow of aircraft across 11% of the world’s airspace, while also providing aviation rescue and fire-fighting services at major airports. Saab’s I-ATS technology will support tower and approach operations, enhancing digital workflows and improving situational awareness for controllers managing busy traffic environments.

The agreement marks another step forward for both organisations as they work to modernise air navigation services and support the long-term development of Australia’s aviation industry.
