Saab Launches Serial Production of Sirius Compact at New Tampere Facility

The opening, attended by Finland’s Minister of Finance and Deputy Prime Minister Riikka Purra and Tampere’s Mayor Kalervo Kummola, underscores Saab’s strong expansion in Finland and the rising global demand for the sensor. The new production line is expected to boost exports, with the first customer deliveries set for April 2025. Sirius Compact, a modular and scalable sensor family, enhances situational awareness by detecting, classifying, and geolocating various emitters, with versions tailored for radar/datalink and communication signals.

(PRESS RELEASE) STOCKHOLM, 1-Apr-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Saab has commenced serial production of its passive electronic warfare sensor, Sirius Compact, at a new state-of-the-art production facility in Tampere, Finland. The inauguration event was attended by Finland’s Minister of Finance and Deputy Prime Minister, Riikka Purra, along with Tampere’s Mayor, Kalervo Kummola, marking a significant milestone in both Saab’s expansion in Finland and the advancement of Sirius Compact.

Driven by growing global demand for enhanced passive electronic warfare capabilities, Saab has ramped up production at this newly opened facility. The establishment of this facility is a testament to Saab’s robust growth in Finland, with promising prospects for increased exports of the Sirius Compact sensor in the coming years.

“Our product-focused R&D efforts allow us to achieve efficient production, ensuring fast deliveries and superior performance with the latest technology for our customers,” said Kristian Tornivaara, Managing Director of Saab Finland. The new facility is already operational, and the first serial-produced deliveries are scheduled to begin in April 2025.

Sirius Compact is a family of modular and scalable passive sensors that significantly enhance situational awareness by detecting, classifying, and geolocating a variety of emitters. The product family includes the Sirius Compact R-ESM, designed for radar and datalink signals, and the Sirius Compact C-ESM, which specializes in communication signals.
