(PRESS RELEASE) MADRID, 13-Jan-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Quark, the leading data centre engineering and design firm in southern Europe, is reinforcing its international expansion strategy with the launch of a new subsidiary in Portugal. This follows the company’s acquisition by Sener in 2023 and builds on its successful entry into the German and French markets. With an established presence in Portugal, where it has been involved in major projects like the Covilhã data centre for Altice—one of the country’s largest facilities—Quark is poised to strengthen its foothold in the Portuguese market.

As the dominant player in the national data centre engineering sector, Quark has been behind some of Portugal’s most iconic projects since 2012, including key developments for clients like Banco de Portugal and Sibs. With a portfolio of over 45 designed data centres, representing 600 MW of accumulated power and 250,000 square meters of built space, Quark’s new office in Portugal is expected to further enhance its ability to take on new projects and consolidate its presence in Europe.

In 2024, the company experienced impressive growth, securing 50% more contracts than the previous year and expanding its workforce by 40, bringing the total to more than 100 employees. This rapid business expansion, coupled with Quark’s integration into the Sener group, is accelerating its international and domestic growth. As part of this strategy, Quark recently unveiled a new data centre design technology hub at Sener’s headquarters in Bilbao, with plans to add 50 professionals over the next two years.

Additionally, Quark has established an office in Catalonia to develop two significant new data centre projects in the region for major industry players. These projects represent a combined investment of 160 million euros and complement the company’s ongoing work on a 68,000-square-meter data centre for Panattoni in Cerdanyola del Vallès, which, with a 300 million euro investment, will become the largest data centre in the region.

Ricardo Abad, CEO of Quark, commented: “The digital economy continues to push the boundaries of our clients’ capabilities. As the demand for sophisticated and efficient data centres grows, we believe our proximity to international clients will help them overcome their most complex technology challenges. Quark is committed to innovation, ensuring the delivery of the most advanced and sustainable data centres.”
