Nordex Secures 94 MW Order in Nova Scotia with Advanced Cold-Climate Turbine Solutions

(IN BRIEF) A wind energy project developer has ordered 16 N163/5.X turbines from the Nordex Group for a 94 MW project in Nova Scotia, with a 25-year service agreement included. The turbines, each rated at 5.9 MW, will be installed on 125-meter-high tubular steel towers tailored for cold climate operations and equipped with the Nordex Advanced Anti-Icing System to minimize ice-related downtimes during winter. Manav Sharma, CEO Division North America at Nordex, emphasized that this order reinforces the company’s market expansion in Canada, citing their longstanding expertise in anti-icing technology that has been pivotal in reducing operational disruptions in cold environments. The customer and wind farm details have not been disclosed. Nordex, with over 57 GW installed globally and consolidated sales of approximately EUR 7.3 billion in 2024, operates a wide manufacturing network and specializes in onshore turbines designed for markets with space and grid limitations.

(PRESS RELEASE) HAMBURG, 17-Mar-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — A wind energy project developer has recently placed an order with the Nordex Group for the supply and installation of 16 N163/5.X turbines, amounting to a 94 MW project. In addition to the turbine supply, the order includes a comprehensive 25-year service agreement to ensure optimal performance throughout the turbines’ operational lifetime.

Nordex will deliver these turbines for the Nova Scotia wind project starting from mid-2026. Each turbine, boasting a nominal capacity of 5.9 MW, will be mounted on 125-meter-high tubular steel towers specifically designed for cold climates. They will also feature the Nordex Advanced Anti-Icing System for rotor blades, a technology that significantly minimizes ice formation and consequently reduces downtime during the harsh winter months.

Manav Sharma, CEO Division North America at the Nordex Group, stated, “This project further strengthens our market presence in Canada. Fifteen years ago, we pioneered the integration of an anti-icing system for rotor blades in our turbines. Today, our proven technology remains one of the critical factors in our success in cold climate markets, ensuring that our turbines remain highly available by virtually eliminating ice-related disruptions.”

The identities of the customer and the wind farm remain confidential.
