Nokia to Modernize Taoyuan International Airport’s Communications Network with Mission-Critical IP/MPLS Infrastructure

Nokia to Modernize Taoyuan International Airport’s Communications Network with Mission-Critical IP/MPLS Infrastructure

(IN BRIEF) Nokia will upgrade the communications infrastructure at Taiwan’s Taoyuan International Airport using its mission-critical IP/MPLS solution, replacing the current systems in Terminals 1 and 2 and significantly strengthening cybersecurity, reliability, and operational efficiency. Delivered with HwaCom Systems, the solution unifies essential airport services—including check-in, baggage handling, Wi-Fi, CCTV, and other operational technologies—onto a single resilient platform. As Taiwan’s busiest airport with nearly 45 million passengers in 2024 and a third terminal under development, TIAC is preparing for continued growth with a modernized, future-proof network. Nokia’s enhanced routers and network management platform will support improved safety, automation, and performance across airport operations.

(PRESS RELEASE) ESPOO, 24-Nov-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Nokia has announced that Taoyuan International Airport Corporation (TIAC) will modernize and expand its communications infrastructure using Nokia’s mission-critical IP/MPLS solution, a major upgrade that will reinforce the security, reliability, and efficiency of airport operations across Terminals 1 and 2. Delivered in partnership with HwaCom Systems, the new network will enable TIAC to replace its existing systems with a unified, future-ready platform designed to meet the demands of a rapidly growing passenger and cargo hub.

The enhanced communications backbone will integrate voice, data, video, operational technologies, and critical airport services—such as check-in kiosks, the baggage handling system, Wi-Fi networks, and CCTV—into a single, streamlined infrastructure. Consolidating these systems will reduce operational complexity, increase service uptime, and lower long-term maintenance costs. Nokia will also equip the airport with an end-to-end network, service, and security management platform, giving TIAC deeper visibility into network performance and allowing for more agile and informed operational decisions.

Handling nearly 45 million passengers in 2024, Taoyuan International Airport is Taiwan’s busiest aviation gateway and is preparing for continued growth with the construction of a third terminal planned to open in 2027. As passenger volumes rise, ensuring robust cybersecurity, high-availability connectivity, and operational safety are essential for delivering a seamless travel experience.

“Airport networks must maintain the highest levels of security, reliability, and performance. We have been impressed by Nokia and its partner HwaCom in ensuring timely execution of this project,” said a spokesperson from TIAC’s Information and Communications Technology Department.

Stuart Hendry, Vice President of Enterprise Sales, Network Infrastructure, Asia Pacific at Nokia, added: “Our mission-critical network solutions are trusted globally for their resilience and performance. We are honored to support this prestigious project with HwaCom. Nokia’s IP/MPLS solution will enhance airport safety and operations while helping reduce energy consumption.”

Nokia’s deployment includes the 7750 Service Router, 7250 Interconnect Routers, 7210 Service Access System, and the Network Service Platform, which will help TIAC automate and simplify operations, ensuring the airport is equipped for long-term digital transformation and growing regional connectivity demands.
