(PRESS RELEASE) LONDON, 7-Aug-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Morrisons has announced the expansion of its partnership with Too Good To Go, now offering ‘Surprise Bags’ at over 930 Morrisons Daily convenience stores across the UK. This initiative aims to reduce food waste and provide great value to customers.

After a successful trial in northern England, the Midlands, and Wales, Morrisons is broadening its commitment to sustainability by listing its convenience stores on Too Good To Go’s platform, the world’s leading marketplace for surplus food. During the trial, over 40,000 Surprise Bags were saved, showcasing the potential for significant food waste reduction.

Each Surprise Bag contains quality food nearing its sell-by date and is available at a reduced price. Customers can purchase these bags by downloading the Too Good To Go app, locating their nearest Morrisons Daily store, reserving a bag, and picking it up at a designated time.

Andrew Edlin, Senior Sustainability Manager for Morrisons, highlighted the positive reception of the initiative: “Customers and colleagues continue to tell us how much they value Too Good To Go’s Surprise Bags from Morrisons. It saves customers money while also helping us to play our part in reducing food waste and hitting our sustainability target of achieving scope 3 net-zero operational emissions. We are delighted to be rolling the bags out to some of our Morrisons Daily convenience stores.”

Sophie Trueman, Country Director at Too Good To Go UK and Ireland, expressed excitement about the expanded partnership: “Our team is absolutely thrilled to have Morrisons Daily joining the fight against food waste. At Too Good To Go we believe that saving food from going to waste is a win-win-win – businesses can recover the sunk cost of would-be wasted food, consumers can get good food for less, and with one simple action, we’re collectively doing something great for the planet by stopping that food from ending up in landfill.”

This expansion builds on the successful partnership between Too Good To Go and Morrisons, which began in November 2019. Since then, the collaboration has saved 2.3 million Surprise Bags from being wasted across nearly 500 Morrisons supermarkets, including Market Kitchens and Cafés.

Food waste accounts for 10% of all human-caused greenhouse gas emissions worldwide. Tackling food waste is crucial in addressing the climate crisis, identified as the top solution to limit global temperature rise to 2˚C by 2100, according to Project Drawdown. Through its partnership with Too Good To Go, Morrisons Daily will continue to contribute to reducing food waste and its environmental impact while offering customers great value.
