(PRESS RELEASE) LONDON, 12-Nov-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Morrisons has successfully finalized the acquisition of 36 convenience stores across Jersey, Guernsey, and Alderney from SandpiperCI. This acquisition includes 19 existing Morrisons Daily stores, with the remaining locations currently operating under the Iceland, Chequers Express, and Le Cocq brands. Over the coming months, all stores—excluding the two Le Cocq outlets—will be transitioned to the Morrisons brand. The company plans to invest more than £7 million in the rebranding and store improvements, further enhancing the customer experience across the Channel Islands.

Rami Baitiéh, Chief Executive of Morrisons, expressed his enthusiasm about the completion of the deal, saying, “We are thrilled to welcome 520 new colleagues into the Morrisons family. This acquisition strengthens our business and allows us to expand our reach, and we’re excited about the potential to build on the great work already done by these teams.”

Joseph Sutton, Morrisons’ Director of Convenience, Online & Wholesale, noted the positive impact the change in ownership will have on customers. “The new ownership presents an opportunity to refresh and elevate our offerings. We are keen to hear directly from our customers to ensure we meet their expectations. We look forward to introducing a wider selection of high-quality fresh food and expanding into new product ranges, such as clothing and homeware,” he said.

Sutton also highlighted the introduction of the popular Morrisons More Card in the Channel Islands. “We are especially excited to bring the Morrisons More Card to the region. This card provides our customers with the chance to earn points on purchases and access exclusive discounts,” he added.

With this acquisition, Morrisons now operates around 1,600 convenience stores across the UK, including approximately 600 franchise locations and about 500 full-sized supermarkets. The company’s investment in these new stores marks a significant step forward in its ongoing strategy to grow its presence in the convenience sector.
