(PRESS RELEASE) THE HAGUE, 3-Jan-2025 — /EuropaWire/ —  Eurojust, an agency of the European Union dealing with judicial co-operation in criminal matters among agencies of the member states, announces that Martyna Pospieszalska has assumed the role of the new U.S. Liaison Prosecutor at Eurojust, succeeding Philip Mirrer-Singer. Appointed for an initial two-year term, Pospieszalska brings more than a decade of experience in international criminal law cooperation, particularly in areas such as extradition, mutual legal assistance, electronic evidence, and cross-border asset forfeiture.

Pospieszalska expressed her gratitude, stating, “It is a privilege to represent the U.S. Department of Justice at Eurojust. Together with my colleagues, Deputy Liaison Prosecutor Timothy Rank and U.S. Special Prosecutor for the Crime of Aggression Jessica Kim, this appointment underscores the United States’ dedication to working closely with European partners in tackling serious transnational crime and safeguarding the rule of law.”

Before her new appointment, Pospieszalska served as a Trial Attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of International Affairs (OIA), the central authority for the United States in matters of international legal cooperation, since 2014. There, she offered guidance to both U.S. and foreign authorities, focusing on European extraditions and mutual legal assistance requests. Her expertise also extends to securing electronic evidence and handling international asset forfeiture cases.

Earlier in her career, Pospieszalska held the position of Law Clerk to the Presiding Judge of the Superior Court of the U.S. Virgin Islands from June 2012 to October 2014. Additionally, she served as a Special Assistant at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia.

Pospieszalska is no stranger to The Hague, home to Eurojust’s headquarters. During her law school years, she spent a semester working at the U.S. Embassy in the Netherlands, where she also attended Leiden University for a specialized international law course.

In 2011, Pospieszalska earned a Juris Doctorate from the American University of Washington College of Law, where she also completed a master’s degree in international affairs.

As one of twelve non-EU countries with a Liaison Prosecutor at Eurojust, the United States continues to demonstrate its commitment to cross-border judicial cooperation. Liaison Prosecutors facilitate communication between their respective national authorities and those of EU Member States, playing a pivotal role in promoting international legal collaboration.
