LEGO House Unveils Exclusive Fabuland Tribute Set, Celebrating 40 Years of Storytelling Innovation

(IN BRIEF) LEGO House will release the exclusive Fabuland Tribute set in March 2025, celebrating the pioneering storytelling of LEGO Fabuland from the 1980s. Designed by Stuart Harris and Markus Rollbühler, the set reimagines iconic Fabuland characters with modern LEGO design, continuing the legacy of creative storytelling in LEGO play.

(PRESS RELEASE) BILLUND, 21-Feb-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — In celebration of the legacy of LEGO Fabuland, LEGO House in Billund, Denmark, is set to release a new tribute set, paying homage to one of the most beloved themes in LEGO history. The exclusive set, LEGO Fabuland Tribute (40506), will be available from March 1, 2025, at the LEGO Store in LEGO House. This limited-edition set honors the iconic characters and storytelling foundation of LEGO Fabuland, which ran from 1979 to 1989, blending creativity with narrative in ways that hadn’t been seen before in the LEGO universe.

The set is designed by LEGO House Master Builder Stuart Harris and LEGO Senior Designer Markus Rollbühler, with input from the historians at LEGO Idea House. The tribute set reimagines the much-loved Fabuland characters—Edward Elephant, Joe Crow, Dr. Lucy Lamb, and Clive Crocodile—using modern LEGO design principles. The set is a beautiful mix of nostalgia and innovation, showcasing how these characters have shaped storytelling within LEGO themes.

A Nod to the Past and Future of LEGO Storytelling
Kathrine Kirk Muff, Managing Director of LEGO House, shared her excitement: “Each year, the LEGO House Exclusive products are a highlight, and this year’s Fabuland Tribute is no exception. Fabuland played a groundbreaking role in combining storytelling with LEGO play, and seeing this celebrated in such a unique way brings back wonderful memories for me. This set also exemplifies our commitment to offering our guests a piece of LEGO history they can enjoy and continue building at home.”

The set is designed to reflect the magic of storytelling that Fabuland pioneered in the 1980s, with character-driven narratives introduced through short stories in building instructions—a first for LEGO themes at the time. The Fabuland Tribute set continues this tradition with beautifully illustrated instructions by LEGO House Associate Master Builder Didac Perez, where each character’s build is presented with a storyline, allowing for a character-by-character assembly process.

A Significant Milestone in LEGO History
Fabuland was introduced in 1979 as a groundbreaking LEGO theme set in a whimsical animal world. For the first time, LEGO combined building with narrative, allowing children to immerse themselves in the adventures of Fabuland’s charming residents. It became the first LEGO theme to encourage storytelling and the first to extend into licensed products, including books and clothing. With its unique mix of animal characters, cozy homes, and playful environments, Fabuland set the stage for future LEGO themes that would incorporate storytelling in even greater depth, such as LEGO® NINJAGO®, LEGO® Friends, and LEGO® Bionicle®.

The Fabuland Tribute set is the sixth release in LEGO House’s Special Edition series. Previous sets have included “The Wooden Duck,” “The Brick Moulding Machine,” and “Dagny Holm – Master Builder.” Like the others, this set will be exclusively available at LEGO House in Billund, cementing its place as a must-have collectible for LEGO fans and history enthusiasts alike.

Celebrating the Fabuland Legacy
Stuart Harris, Master Builder for LEGO House, expressed the personal significance of this project: “Fabuland holds a special place in my heart. Growing up, I spent a lot of time with the original Fabuland sets and was captivated by how they encouraged creative storytelling. It’s incredibly rewarding to bring these characters back to life and to see how their influence has endured in future LEGO themes. I’m excited to see the Fabuland Tribute set inspire new generations of fans, just as it did for us.”

The LEGO Fabuland Tribute (40506) features 1,026 elements and is suitable for builders aged 10 and up. It is priced at 649 DKK and will be available exclusively at the LEGO House retail store in Billund starting March 1, 2025.
