Krey Schiffahrt Selects Inmarsat NexusWave to Support Operations of New Heavy Lift Fleet

Krey Schiffahrt selects Inmarsat NexusWave bonded connectivity for its new build cargo carriers.

(IN BRIEF) Inmarsat Maritime will deploy its NexusWave bonded connectivity service on four newbuild heavy lift vessels operated by Krey Schiffahrt, providing always-on, unlimited data connectivity to support efficient operations and crew welfare. The new vessels, designed to reduce emissions by more than 35 percent, will use NexusWave to keep performance monitoring and energy management systems continuously connected worldwide. The agreement highlights the role of advanced maritime connectivity in supporting operational efficiency, sustainability and digitalisation across modern project cargo fleets.

(PRESS RELEASE) LONDON, 16-Dec-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Inmarsat Maritime, a Viasat company, has been selected by German ship manager Krey Schiffahrt to provide NexusWave bonded connectivity for four newbuild heavy lift vessels, supporting efficient operations through always-on, unlimited data connectivity. The deployment will equip the new vessels with a fully managed communications service designed to deliver consistent performance and seamless connectivity across global operating areas.

Krey Schiffahrt, which currently manages a fleet of modern multi-purpose heavy lift vessels, is expanding its capacity to meet growing demand in the project cargo segment. The new state-of-the-art carriers have been designed with a strong focus on operational flexibility and sustainability, featuring optimised hull forms and advanced propulsion systems that are expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 35 percent compared with vessels of similar size.

NexusWave will play a central role in ensuring that onboard systems such as performance monitoring and energy management remain continuously connected. The bonded multi-network solution combines global coverage with managed service levels and unlimited data, enabling secure, high-speed connectivity for both operational applications and crew communications. This approach supports data-intensive use cases while simplifying connectivity management through a single service provider.

According to Krey Schiffahrt, reliable and resilient connectivity is essential for executing complex heavy lift operations efficiently while maintaining high standards of crew welfare. The fully managed nature of the NexusWave service is intended to reduce operational complexity and ensure that critical systems remain accessible at all times, regardless of trading routes.

For Inmarsat Maritime, the agreement reflects the growing demand for advanced connectivity solutions that can support modern vessel designs, fuel efficiency initiatives and digitalisation strategies. By delivering consistent high-speed connectivity, NexusWave is positioned to support continuous monitoring, operational optimisation and improved onboard living conditions for crews across Krey Schiffahrt’s expanding fleet.
