(PRESS RELEASE) WASHINGTON, D.C., United States, 25-Mar-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Inmarsat Maritime, a Viasat company, has been awarded the Maritime Mobility Innovation award at the Mobile Satellite Users Association 2026 Satellite Mobile Innovation Awards for its fully managed bonded connectivity service, NexusWave. The solution introduces a new approach to maritime communications by combining multiple network connections simultaneously, delivering consistent, high-speed connectivity at sea.

NexusWave has been specifically developed to address the increasing demands of modern maritime operations. Unlike conventional systems that switch between networks, the service uses a network-bonding capability that aggregates and distributes data traffic across multiple links in real time. This ensures uninterrupted connectivity and a more stable user experience for both vessel operators and crew members.

During sea trials, the solution demonstrated download speeds of up to 340 megabits per second and upload speeds of up to 80 megabits per second. It is designed to provide unlimited data usage, built-in security features, and service availability exceeding 99.9 percent, even in areas with high connectivity demand. These capabilities support a wide range of operational needs, including digital workflows, cloud-based systems, cybersecurity measures, remote technical support, and continuous ship-to-shore communication.

In addition to operational efficiency, NexusWave enhances onboard living conditions by enabling reliable access to digital services commonly available on land. Crew members can benefit from high-quality video calls, streaming services and social connectivity, contributing to improved well-being and supporting retention in a sector where connectivity expectations continue to rise. The solution also aligns with evolving maritime labour standards related to onboard digital access.

The service has already been adopted by major global shipping companies, including Evergreen, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Anglo-Eastern, Caribe Tankers and EXMAR. Designed for scalability, NexusWave can be deployed across individual vessels or entire fleets and is built to incorporate additional satellite capacity as it becomes available.

By integrating advanced network-bonding technology with a fully managed service model, Inmarsat Maritime is advancing the capabilities of maritime communications, enabling more resilient operations and improved connectivity experiences at sea.
