The software is designed to work with any 3D scanner or portable CMM and supports various CAD systems. Customers benefit from improved productivity and robust reverse engineering capabilities, as illustrated by positive testimonials from users. Hexagon will continue to support its existing hardware partnerships while leveraging its sensor range, including the latest models, to provide integrated solutions across global markets.

(PRESS RELEASE) STOCKHOLM, 2-Apr-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Hexagon has finalized its acquisition of the Geomagic software business from 3D Systems Corporation, significantly enhancing its portfolio with market-leading technology. This strategic move enables Hexagon to offer advanced solutions that boost productivity in acquiring, processing, and reverse-engineering 3D measurement data throughout the product lifecycle and CAD design processes.

Now integrated into Hexagon’s Manufacturing Intelligence division, the Geomagic suite will be marketed to the discrete manufacturing sector, adding value to Hexagon’s established offerings in industries like mining and construction. The suite includes robust software for quality control and measurement, mesh and surface model creation, and parametric scan-to-CAD workflows, all essential for efficient reverse engineering.

Josh Weiss, President of Hexagon’s Manufacturing Intelligence division, remarked, “We are excited to welcome Geomagic to our family. Their software, along with the talented team behind it, sets the benchmark for intuitive, scan-based reverse engineering, inspection, and design tools. This acquisition is a vital step in providing our customers, partners, and hardware OEMs with the enhanced productivity and new capabilities they demand.” He emphasized that Hexagon will maintain support for all existing hardware and software partnerships that serve Geomagic customers, while also investing in further development to extend the functionalities of this innovative suite.

A standout feature of Geomagic’s solutions is their versatility—they work seamlessly with any 3D scanner or portable CMM, supporting reverse engineering and metrology workflows across a diverse range of optical, laser, and LiDAR devices from any vendor. Hexagon continues to guarantee full access to the software portfolio, including native support for CAD and PMI data from major systems like Dassault CATIA, PTC Creo, Autodesk Inventor, Siemens NX, and Dassault SOLIDWORKS.

Among the suite’s offerings, Geomagic Design X is noted as the industry’s most comprehensive scan-to-CAD tool, enabling users to accurately recreate parametric models from scanned parts with minimal manual intervention. Fabien Brunet, a Tool Design Technician at Schneider Electric, shared, “3D scanning has unlocked modeling capabilities we never had before. With Geomagic Design X, our productivity has skyrocketed.” Meanwhile, Geomagic Control X streamlines 3D scan-based inspection by automating reporting processes, reducing report preparation time by up to 70%, as experienced by Hazim Abueideh, Quality Control Analyst at air up GmbH.

Additional offerings include Geomagic for SOLIDWORKS, which allows users to reverse-engineer scan data within their native SOLIDWORKS environment; Geomagic Wrap, designed for rapid and precise NURBS surface creation from complex point clouds and meshes; and Geomagic Freeform, the industry’s most comprehensive solution for organic design, widely used in personalized healthcare, orthotics & prosthetics, and industrial design.

Hexagon’s extensive global network of hardware customers stands to benefit from the enhanced reverse engineering and metrology capabilities that this acquisition brings, especially with direct scanning support integrated across Hexagon’s sensor lineup, including the new SmartScan VR800, ATLASCAN Max, and MARVELSCAN products.

Hexagon is the global leader in digital reality solutions, combining sensor, software and autonomous technologies. We are putting data to work to boost efficiency, productivity, quality and safety across industrial, manufacturing, infrastructure, public sector, and mobility applications.

Our technologies are shaping production and people related ecosystems to become increasingly connected and autonomous – ensuring a scalable, sustainable future.
