Henkel Introduces Loctite Stycast UV 7998 as Sustainable and Cost-Competitive Conformal Coating for Mainstream Electronics

Conformal coatings can help increase performance and product lifespan when applied to PCBs and other electronic components.

(IN BRIEF) Henkel has launched Loctite Stycast UV 7998, a new solvent-free conformal coating that combines strong electronics protection with UL 94 V-0 certification, sustainability benefits, and cost efficiency for mainstream applications such as home appliances, lighting, consumer electronics, and automotive systems. Designed for easy application and rapid curing, the material offers excellent coverage and environmental resistance while potentially cutting CO2 emissions by up to 40 per cent compared with solvent-based alternatives. Henkel positions the product as a mass-market solution that complements its existing portfolio, with early success already seen in the home appliance sector and strong alignment with RoHS and REACH requirements.

(PRESS RELEASE) DÜSSELDORF, 10-Feb-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Henkel has introduced Loctite Stycast UV 7998, a new solvent-free conformal coating designed to deliver robust electronics protection while meeting demanding sustainability, safety, and cost requirements. The latest addition to Henkel’s conformal coating portfolio combines high performance with UL 94 V-0 certification and a competitive price point, making it suitable for a broad range of mainstream applications such as home appliances, lighting systems, consumer electronics, and automotive components.

Conformal coatings are widely used across the electronics industry to protect printed circuit boards (PCBs) and sensitive components from moisture, dust, chemicals, and other environmental factors that could compromise reliability or shorten product life. Loctite Stycast UV 7998 provides this essential protection while also reducing operational costs and supporting improved environmental and workplace safety outcomes through its solvent-free formulation.

Conformal coatings are applied to PCBs and components to help protect them against moisture, dust, chemicals, and other environmental conditions.

Henkel Global Innovation Project Manager Oliver Steinbach highlights the complexity behind developing the new material, noting that balancing energy efficiency, high-volume manufacturing, operator safety, cost effectiveness, performance, and strict certification standards presents a significant technical challenge. He explains that the objective was to create a next-generation conformal coating that delivers leading performance, aligns with the highest sustainability benchmarks, and enhances production efficiency. According to Steinbach, Loctite Stycast UV 7998 achieves these goals by offering dependable protection for electronic products while reinforcing Henkel’s commitment to purpose-driven innovation.

From a manufacturing standpoint, Loctite Stycast UV 7998 is designed for ease of application and reliable performance. The material spreads evenly across PCB assemblies with strong self-leveling properties, excellent wetting, and consistent coverage without voids. Once applied, it cures rapidly under energy-efficient UV light, followed by a secondary moisture cure, after which the coated electronics are effectively shielded from harsh environmental conditions and contaminants.

The sustainability profile of Loctite Stycast UV 7998 is a key differentiator, enabling electronics manufacturers to potentially reduce CO2 emissions by up to 40 per cent compared with solvent-based alternatives. The coating is VOC-free and solvent-free, requiring up to four times less sprayed volume to achieve comparable thickness. It is also free from tin, halogens, and BPA, and complies with both RoHS and REACH regulations, supporting safer working environments and lower environmental impact.

Steinbach also underscores the practical value of the material, pointing to early market success, particularly in the home appliance sector where durability, long service life, and warranty protection are critical. He describes Loctite Stycast UV 7998 as a mass-market solution for mainstream electronics that complements Henkel’s existing range of conformal coatings while addressing an unmet need in the market. Initial adoption, he suggests, indicates that the product is meeting industry expectations.
